there are quite a few differant cams out there for the 4g63 engine.

HKS 264 intake cam with the HKS 272 Exhaust cam for example
or there is 264 intake and 264 exhaust or there is 272 intake and 272 exhaust.

the 264/264 has more drivablity and the 272/272 is a high reving combo so 264/272 is somwhere inbetween.

think of it like hotcams stage 1,2 or 3. it doesn't mean that their is 272 cams in the engine hehe

The open downpipe drowns out everything. There isn't enough lump at idle so those definitely are not 272 cams.

lump = rough idle because of the cam's longer duration and higher lift

No, downpipes aren't always open to atmosphere.
Open DP = no exhaust or a cutout
I think you might be thinking about an open wastegate.

With all of the nice exhaust free flowing systems on the market there is no need to run an open dp/exhaust on a street car.

That engined sounded like somebody has been goofing aroung with the timimg gears. I have been around quite a few built lefthand side timing gear 4G63's and that motor is not one. An old friend was a rally tuner who specialized in Lancers so I helped install larger cams, and associated gear, too many times to count. Everything from 264/264 street setups to "pain in the bottomside to tune" 288/288 drag setups.
