JUST GOT AN 06 TACOMA DOULBLE CAB 3 WEEKS AGO AND ITS THE BEST TRUCK I'VE EVER HAD. THE 4.0 HAULS ***, GETS 21MPG AND IS SUPER QUIET ON THE ROAD. I'VE GOT A LITTLE BOX TRAILER, IT DOESN'T WEIGH MUCH BUT IT PULLS IT LIKE IT WASN'T THERE. OF COURSE YOU WON'T HAVE THE ROOM OF A FULL SIZE TRUCK BUT ITS NOT EXACTLY LIKE THE OLDER MINI TRUCKS.

1st truck, must be nice to have these choices.. but def. go with the tacoma, more reliable, high quality all around.. compare the 2 you'll see how cheap the Chevy's are in some areas unfortunately.. not that i wouldnt owe one but with a choice id pick toyota, which is why i have a tundra now:)

im a chevy guy but i would go with the yoter, cant break them damn things, i watch a guy go off a jump twice with one and flipped both times and the thing still ran like a champ. the yoter is the way to go.

Toyota all the way!!! I have always been a Chevy guy until my dad bought a Tundra and it made my 98 Silverado look like a POS! It's little things like rattles and squeks that the domestic vehicles all have that the foreign ones don't. Another huge factor is they will run to well over a quarter of a million miles!!! Some, like old Toyota trucks I have seen with almost a half a million miles!!! That is one tough truck!!

Yea, 15 and is already buying a truck most of us couldn't afford:p . I'll trade you my POS rusted, falling apart, barely makes it from A to B 4 cylinder Sonoma:D . Hey...it gets 28 mpg every once in awhile...

But anyway, I've never been around any Japanese trucks so I couldn't help you there, but if I had the option of getting a good deal on that Z71 I'd go for it. Mainly because I'm a Chevy guy and because I don't have a lot of money so I'd take what I could get. But it sounds like money isn't an issue with you, so your better option may be the Jap truck. They seem to be more American than American vehicles anyway.

Are you kidding me? These trucks are not even in the same league. The Tacoma can only hope to be as nice as the Chevy when it grows up. Only decision here is which Z71 to buy.

If you're going to buy new, you might as well spend a couple thousand more and get the tundra. I was looking at them and at my local dealer, the Tundra was $2000 more and that was the 4dr, 4wd, v8 compared to the top of the line Taco.

Tacomas are just as capable off road as chevy's if not more and getting stuck has nothing to do with the vehicle its all driver. I had a lifted Tahoe on 35's and it wasn't good for any thing more than mud bogging. Tacomas IMO provide a better platform for offroading compared to the silverado the 4x4 and PreRunner model tacomas come with the metric tire equivalent to a 32/10.50, coils up front as standard equiptment instead of old school torsion bars like the chevy 4x4's, and awesome power to weight ratio.

FYI my buddy has a 2002 Chevy 2500 8.1L , thats right 8.1L HD lifted 6 in" with 35"

Ive got a 2000 tacoma 6cyc with 3" lift, 32" tires and STEEL wheels(heavy). My truck is faster all around. I also have over 2" more ground clearence. He has 3" bigger tires too....
Yotas will get places those big chevys can't even come close.
Granted he can tow more, if you need to do that.. but My yota does just fine townin 2 bikes gear etc...

youre dads tundra is also considerably newer than the silverado... most cars will run to a quarter million if they are maintained- most companies are making pretty good cars these days... i worked in the car business for several years, and have a lot of experience with lots of different kinds of cars...

250r4life

there are several factors that have to be taken into consideration...

A- what your needs for the truck are... i put two quads across the back of my truck, and pull a 20+ foot travel trailer to the dunes... i couldnt do that with a tacoma...
B- the kind of deal you can get... i had an s10 a while back... would i rather have had a tacoma, and would the tacoma likely have ran longer... yes... but i got the s10, drove it for 16 months, and sold it for $600 more than what i had boughten it for, and never had to put any money into it... its a lot harder to find as good as deal on toyotas and hondas- everybody asks crazy money for them...
C- how long youre going to have them... yes i agree toyotas (in general) will run longer than chevys, but most people who buy newer trucks dont keep them for 10 years... so part of it has to do with how much money you will have to tie up for your truck...

lots of factors...

not to stir the pot, but the Tacoma and the Tundra are made right here in the USA.

You would also be surprised to see how many parts that are put in the z71 that come from other countries as canada, mexico etc

bottom line there both good quality trucks with pros and cons to both.

test drive them both and go with which one fits you best who cares what anyone else says as long as you like it

my vote is for the taco because I have one myself....bulletproof

Bull****....

We raced 3 times. all 3 times i pulled him from the line and held a steady 1.5-2 truck lengths on him to 90mph. Both truck have under 60K miles on em'.

Come on down to Va, I might even let you ride shotgun when we race,

look up how much an 8.1 chevy weighs compared to a tacoma. An 8.1 is also probably around $10k more than the taco too.

because the toyota is 4550lbs gross vehicle weight, and the chevy is 6400lbs.

yes pismolocal i know the weight plays a factor but with 100 more hp... made at 1 grand less id sure think it would pull off faster than a tacoma. but then again you factor in tranny's and how they are setup... the 8.1l is made for a lot of pulling, while the tacoma is more of an all around daily driver. that'd be my guess anyways.

I can also pull 3 quads with my GMC Sonoma I4 5-speed with all my gear and gas and still get 23 MPG:p . It struggles, but it'll do it. Just pretty sure I'd absolutely kill for a bigger truck:ermm: . Right now I don't care if it's foreign or not.

nope, but i worked in the car industry for over 4 years and drove about 10 different cars a day... anything from a $300 1985 civic to porsches worth couple hundred thousand... ive lined up and raced quite a few things, and ive also had experience driving quite a few things, including tacomas...

and no i havent raced a tacoma with an 8.1, but i have raced a 2006 quad cab v6 tacoma with my 5.3 with dual exhaust and K&N, and i did not lose...

I can't help but to laugh at you guys who are talking about speed on these trucks. If speed is your primary concern, you made the first mistake when you bought these trucks! If you want speed, stick with a car or a heavly modded diesel.

Who give's a rat's arse if the truck can go fast... the question should be... can it do what its suppose to do. Haul and pull when needed????
