I can't decide on a cam for my trx450r. I've been lokking at the HRC cam, Sparks, which I belive is an '02 crf cam, and the Hot Cams stage 2! Thanks!

i love the the hot cam stage 2 i put in my bike. i lost a little low end but for the top end i gained it was worth it.

what year bike? what kind of riding do you do? where do you want most of the power at? what are the mods on the bike? are are your future mods?

I ride mx. My bike is an '04 and already seems like all the power is on the top end. I don't know if that little bit of overrev that the HRC cam will give is a better range of the HOTCAM. The only mods to it now are a Rossier exhaust, jetted, and air filter. I don't plan on going with internal mods. Not being a serious racer, (open B) I love the reliability of my bike and don't want to chance that.

Also, does anybody have any experience with the Rossier cam. They advertise that it is better than the Hot cam.

i dont know anything about the rossier cam. however, the hotcams are hard to beat, very hard, for a drop in cam anyways. the hrc is a top end biased cam. i would get a stage 2 or stage 3 hotcam. the stage 3 has top end like the hrc but more bottom end. the stage 2 i have never driven. i heard it has just as good, if not better power than the stage 3 at lower rpms but it will not keep up with the stage 3 in high rpms. i think either will be fine. i like dragging so i went with the stage 3 and i am really happy with the power it puts out. it is hard to find a good dyno chart or ride reports of the stage 2 and stage 3 cams because the stage 3 just came out. i have have only used the stage 3 and the hrc cams so i can't help with the stage 2 much.

Is the stage 3 a drop in or do you need work done?

i dropped mine right in. i didn't even check piston to valve clearance with it. maybe i should have though because it has a lot of lift for a drop in cam. hotcam recommends it for big bores or strokers but it runs good in my bike with a 12.25:1 stock bore piston. but then again i have other mods too..

Thanks, I think I'm going with the Stage 2. My bike is too reliable, and I don't want to jepordize that. I'm not a hard core racer anyways, run open c.

did anyone upgrade there valve springs when they put there cam in?

most people will upgrade the springs after they put an aftermarket ignition on due to the higher revs.

A good MX cam is the 06 CRF cam, I haven't tried it but every motor builder says its far better than any aftermarket.
You'll probably love any cam, because the stocker SUCKS horribly. I'm about the toss in my stage 2, and I hear good things about it to. Kinda wish I went with the 06 CRF though

a buddy of mine has a 05 450r and put stage 2 cams and 13.1 piston in it and the motor on that thing is really smooth and fast, but of course he runs 108 octane in it. i dont know what kind of riding your into but we race motocross and that bike is tuff.
