well i was trailing today and realized my 250x is burning oil.. its not real bad, but it is noticeable when i'm putting through the woods.
it hasnt had an oil change in quite a while.. would an oil change with a thicker oil (15w40) maybe stop it?
worst case scenario i'll haul it down this winter and bore it and rebuild it.. but i want to avoid that as i'm still paying the damn thing off.

also it was really hot in the trail, it made the fender by my leg all soft.
could an oil change solve this? the old oil is pretty burnt.

Well.......the obvious answer is why don't you change your oil and find out?

10-40 is recommended i run 20-50 in my 300ex during the summer it doesnt hurt a thing.just make sure to get a motorcycle oil regular automotive oil has friction modifiers which are not compatable with the wet clutch system on your quad.and just incase when u change your filter make sure to put it in the right way seen way to many people fry thier top end lately by putting it in backwards

wow. i drained the old oil and it was so thin it was just like water.. and blacker than my ancestors.
drained it, new filter(old one was in real bad shape), cleaned my air filter and it runs just like new.
the occasional puff when i start it up but it comes right out of it. seems it only needed a change :D
then i went and pulled a few donuts and my axle let go and came about 6 inches out of the carrier on one side.. :S
