When I had my 400, I generally did them anytime I was taking the plastic off as it wasn't much more work than that. At least gave them a good check. After I adjusted them the first time with my cam, I never had to readjust, but I still checked them often.

Anybody have a writeup on checking/adjusting the valves? I just bought an 05 today with about 20hours and that's when honda says they should be checked.

I do mine about every 20 - 30 Hours. Or if they start ticking before then

dcdc do you know if adjusting valves on a 450r is similar to the 400ex thanks I will be doing this for a friends bike.

anyone know the clearance specs on a 440 10.5-1 kit? or just go with stock clearance?
