View Full Version : Best Shock Setup For GNCC/XC ?

Is there a preference or an actual better shock setup for XC racing? I have an 04 450r with LSR+2 arms and Elka quad rate/zero preload LT suspension.

I was considering ordering Fox shocks but have recently seen a lot of people selling them and putting elka's back on. Is it a preference, or should I stick with the Elka's?

Thanks,
Steve

I would get rid of the elkas and get some axis, and then get rid of the +2 a arms and get some +.5 with 4+1 offset rims, I'd go with a Houser slicast maximun ground clearance/ axis setup:macho

I'd get axis Ars-Fx XC setup with hiper 4-1 off set.

Yes.

Ditch the +2's.

if money is no object.

Have Walsh make you a set of +1 arms.

Anywho..

Houser,Rated X,ATV 4 Play,Laegers,there all good..those Alba LT's are nice too.

Shocks...Elka,Axis,TCS,etc...there all good w/ a good valving.

TCS are the cheaper of the bunch, but offer just as much performance..$950 will get you LT's

IMO....buying shocks used is a steal..you get em for almost 1/2 the price new...send em out for a $200 revalve and your still ahead of the game.

Thanks for the replies. As you can see, I have little to no ground clearance. I have to adjust them a lot more, but the picture says a thousand words. What is the likely hood of someone trading an XC setup for the mx setup on the bike?

I've seen the atv 4 plays and they are rather cheap, how is the quality?

I like my Houser/Elka setup. Works awesome.

As far as ArsFX, I wouldn't be surprised to see Axis gone and Ohlins be the shock of choice. Ballance runs them, but Mike Hallock that designed the ArsFX stuff now works for Ohlins I believe.

So should I consider just getting my Elka's revalved for .5 long travel houser max clearance arms???

I think that might be my easiest option. Thanks a lot for all of the replies. I am racing on saturday and will see how the LSR +2's and elkas all setup for MX work. I don't see it causing much of a problem, I adjusted the ride height, and also softened up compression a little. It feels better on the slow trails right around me.

ARS FX makes nice products but it seems to have stupid flaws...

YFZ stem had too much of that poweroat finish where the stem clamp, clamps the stem making steering very stiff...

TRX 1st gen swingarm had a peice of crap chain slider and no brake line holder

Laeger long travel and Axis shocks are the way to go for cross country.

anything will work fairly well if you take the time to set it up correctly

Not anymore and yes... I will agree with you on the last comment to a degree.

I cant think of too many products that dont have flaws, overcharge, and claim to be the best... :p

From what I hear now ...Houser still makes that crap chain slider and has no effort to get it corrected,at least Zbroz IS.

Whats up with the Chain slide issue anyhow? I would have thought most would have figured out a cure for this by now .
