Hello, im buying a 03 400ex all stock, i was wondering what i should do with my extra cash that im spending on it (which is 400 bucks). Im wanting to boost performance but not mess with the motor where i have frequient problems. I was thinking of getting nerfs, K&N filter, and maybe a slip on exaust, i got a question about exausts though, I was looking at yoshimuras and white e-series exausts, do they make it alot louder? If they do, what exaust is the most reliable, quietist, aftermarket exaust? I live around some neighnors, they are nice people and they wouldnt call the law on me for sound but id rather respect them and not take advantage. And are the stock 400ex shocks good for jumping etc?

nerfs, hmf pipe, and a filter if you want, as for the shocks, they're ok but if you ever find 450r shocks for cheap, jump on them, becouse they are way better than stock and bolt right up

Yea i agree with the nerfs and the 14t sprocket. The hmf tho, might not be what youre looking for if youre looking for a quieter pipe, thats one of the louder pipes out.. Yoshi pipes are pretty quiet from what i hear..

well ill tell you one thing my yoshimura is no where near quiet! neither is hmf but both pipes give good performance with the 96 dbs quiet core installed. i wouldnt get a e-series pipe they have problems with them and htey dont perform as well as other brands. as for the pipe id get the hmf slip-on they are cheap and high quality. go to www.worldwideperformance1.com u can get a slip on for around 200-250 depends on what color u get, jet kit, quiet core, etc... the only reason i went with yosh for mine was i think both full systems perform about the same and i wanted to try a different brand

White Brothers E-Series you can change the discs on them and allow it to be really quiet if you want. Its a good pipe and I haven't had a problem yet. So a pipe and look into some 450R shox for cheap, a 14t sprocket would b good to.

I was thinking white because they are very common, but you guys make it sound bad lol, yoshimuras are just badass, i know hmf sport series are loud but gives a nice sound, what im thinking is just saying f the neighbors and looking at my state sound laws, the main reason for me being kinda shifty on the sound thing is because ive gotton in trouble too many times on atv's around my area, when the law is called they jump all over me last time i got blamed for breaking a window by spinning rocks onto the window on my old 250ex..luckely i proved it wrong because the window was broken from the inside, anyways, maybe it would be easier if i said this.

Out of these 4 exausts what would you rate for the quietiest yet most performance? Im not gonna spend over 200 bucks on crap lol.
FMF
HMF
Yoshimura
White (E-series)

(rate from 1-4..like hmf as 1 fmf as 2 and so on)

Oh also, is a stock a 16 teeth sprocket? and would a 14 teeth be better than a 15 teeth for dirt/trail rideing?

I like my FMF. Ithink its the best bank for the buck, and its not too loud. But u gota expect the exhaust to be a bit loud, none of them are gone be near as quiet as stock IMHO.

Procircuit 496 is pretty quiet

i still think hmf or yosh are the best performing pipes with the quite cores in or out besides sparks

i would get nerfs, k&n filter, and an HMF quiet race series exhaust.

Thanks for the info, i sold some stuff, im up to $1500 bucks to spend on performance. This might be a stupid question but on a 400ex is elka's shocks better than 450r stock shocks?

I don't think that 450r shocks will bolt right up to a 400ex, Isn't there some modification that is needed? If not just get the 450R revalved and springed for you if you get them cheap.
also has anyone used the fox evol recs yet.

Don't foget to get your bike jetted when you put your pipe on. I rec. the HMF slip on.
