You mean painting the whole engine? Im not really sure if thats very wise, unless maybe you powercoat it, im not very knowledgeable about paint though so dont listen to me :P but i guess it depends on how you ride it. Id like to see one too..

Mine, sprayed painted the whole engine with regular spray paint. After 2 rides, around the cylinder is worn off, but the flywheel cover and all are still really nice.

wouldn't that work as an insulator and not let the heat out??

i would expect it would overheat.

Not at ALL ! It actually disapates the heat better! once I painted I sanded all the fins, I like the way it tured out!

Lot of time on motor NO PROBLEMS No Flaking!, No Fading but thats one reason I painted it flat black for that reason so... Motor's almost always fade. But it's holding up GOOD so far>>>>>

Terry You didnt do all that sanding on the cyl did you? That would take a while trying to get between each fin. Im going to start doing mine soon, im thinking of polished cases and a red cyl w/ the sanded fins. That would be crazy.

It would be alot easier to just sand blast the cylinder/head then sand them. I sand blasted my cylinder and had it coated by pappy it turned out great.

Not a 400ex, but it will give you an idea. Painted it will 2200 engine enamel. Held up pretty good so far with a couple races, and practices. Minor scuffs from boot rubs, but nothing serious. Just prep it real good and you shouldn't have a problem.
