When I did my 426, I re-sleeved with the LA sleeve that C&D provided. If I want to bore to 440 can I just bore that sleeve to 89mm or do I need a larger one.

you need to have it resleeved, meaning have the cylinder bored and the new sleeve put in then turned. If you bore a stock sleeve that thin, you will melt your head!

Well you might have had a new sleeve put in, but did they have to bore the cylinder head out to put it in? I know tht the 440 requires the head to be bored, a new sleeve (thicker) put in, and then that sleeve has to be bored and honed to the 89mm. That is what I have read about it. I agree though you should stick with the 426. I have a buddy that has a 400, and it just doesn't seem to have it for me. He can barely pull away from my stock machine (cylinder wise). He pulls maybe a 2 foot lead in a drag race. leave the 426 and stroke it..... you will have a 400, but a much snappier, cooler running bike...

Well I am stroking it because of a problem with the rod. I have another thread about the problem here http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=252269

I would like to keep the 87mm bore but the hotrods crank on the motosport website comes with an 89 mm piston. I cant seem to find a crank kit for cheaper than motosport lists it so Im kinda stuck goin with the 89mm. If I can just bore the sleeve up to 89 then id be all set. You guys know any other options. Id stick with the 87 but I figured if ive got this all apart I mine as well just go 460.

try calling them and asking if u could get that kit with a smaller piston. it might cost a little more because it is not the normal kit, but i am sure u could do it. otherwise, get the kit and sell the 89mm piston and buy a 87mm instead.

The 87mm piston I have is re-usable. I was of the impression that a stroker crank needed a matched piston

You do not need to resleeve- just bore the sleeve you have. I did the same thing as you when I bouilt my 426. With the la sleeve I used, the smallest bore that it would accept was an 87, with the max being 89. This is more than likely the same sleeve that you had put in because I think LA sleeve only makes one sleeve (big bore) other than stock.

nope, u should be fine. i would call first to find out, but u should be fine. if anything, get a 87mm cp piston. that should work because hot rods uses the cp pistons in there kits
