Iv'e looked at the prices of almost every exhaust made for a honda 400ex, I think that LRD might be the best buy but i'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Best slip on for the money is the the HMF ($200).

Do you want more bottom end gain or more top end gain?

If your lookin for a good low end power. Then yoshimura is the best way to go!!

I've never ridden on a quad with a Yoshi, but HMF is known for their low end increase...

If you're getting a full system, get the HMF...their pipes are a larger diameter on the full systems and they'll flow better...but even the slip-ons add a lot of grunt on the low end.

CT racing pipes usually dyno showing the most hp out of most pipes. In a pipe shoot out the Ct racing slip on made the most power but lost cause it was 101dbs. The white bros e series won cause it made nearlly the same hp as the Ct but was not close as loud as the ct. "In that shoot out hmf and Lrd were included"

I didn't see any new shoot outs with the 400ex testing the newer pipes so their may be a newer one that gains more hp. When adding a pipe you only gain about 2-3 hp gain through out the power band.

In alot of shoot outs i seen over the years the HMF eather wins or comes in one of the top places. I think the only reason HMF ever looses is because its slightly loud (97-99 dbs) and loud is bad for trails.

Alot of people say stay away from dg but, beleve it or not i seen alot of shoot outs with the dg excelorator and its one of the top ones but is to loud to win.

Most people that reply here are going to say the best pipe is what ever they have. Not true but most pipes are very close to the same hp gain just different dbs.

Disk systems like white bros e series allows you to adjust the sound out put and you can adjust the disks so that you dont have to rejet. Also by adding disks you gain top end power and by removing disks you gain bottom end power.

I ran the e series and it was a good gain. I ran white bros r series and it felt the same as the e series.

I ran the e-series with 12 disks and a spark arrestor then i removed all disks and the sparky plate and it felt way better than running with the disks(reverd faster/sounded better/felt more powerful). I had to put a bigger main jet in (165)

Stay away from shortys on a stock 400ex cause it dynos at 25 hp with a shorty (at least on a stock 400ex)

Usually the louder the pipe the more its flowing and the more top end it will have. If a pipe flows to much it will loose bottom end but gain major top end like drag racers.
"D" shaped pipes usually hold more packing making them less noisy (white bros e /dg excelorator/Dr d exc...) whyle still making the same hp as louder pipes.

I think HMF and LRD are alot alike.

A slip on, on a 400ex makes the 400ex read 27-28 hp. Full system reads about 31-32 hp with the air box lid removed and a k$n filter and jetted. If you plan on removing the air box lid DONT DO IT RIGHT AWAY!!! Get the jetting right first with the slip on then after the jetting is set right then take the lid off and adjust the needle/clip. Thats the easiest way to jet cause if you adda pipe and remove the lid at the same time its alot harder to get set right.
