700 1st year problems? Losing 2nd gear?

My buddy has had his for 8 months (just outta warranty) I bet he doesnt even have 500 miles on it. He lost 2nd gear today, no noises or grinding or anything, its just like 2nd gear is another neutral. Anyone else ever hear of this with another 700?

Turns out 2nd gear exploded into about 6 pieces, so glad it didnt hit anything else though.

ive had my 700r for a year now and i havent had any problems with it thank god. and i beat the **** out of it.

Got my bike back 3 weeks ago from the shop. My 5th and 3rd gear were bad they said. My 5th gear kept slipping. So hopefully there are no more complications.
