it can be done but like you thought there will be a bottoming problem because the r is much lighter the the ex,if you bought the shocks used for a cheap price and they are after market you can get them valved stiffer and then the will work fine.
it would be better to put 400ex shocks on an r but you situation is reversed.
041- when you bottom out on your R, does your frame hit first? On mine the frame will hit the ground b4 the shocks will ever bottom out. The EX does not do this. The reason I belive is the shock mounts are higher up on the R. Just wanted some info what yours does. THanks

when i had 21 inch fronts on my 250r it didnt bottom out the frame but when i put 19's on the frame bottomed back when i had stock shocks. now with the elkas i never bottom the frontend. my friend ended up putting 250r fronts on his 400ex. the stock 400ex shocks are junk. the 250r fronts are alot less likely to blow out.
Will a rear 250r Aftermarket shock work on a 400ex????

no it will not
theres no way you can get it to fit?
Just glancing at the rear shocks, it appears they would fit, but if someones tried it and it dont work then it dont work.
ESR so your sayin with the Long Travel shocks it didnt bottom the frame out right? Did you have LT a-arms then or just put them on reglular arms? Are the Elkas you have now LT? Or just reglular. Why is it that the frame bottoms out? Is this a design flaw? Sure the higher shock placement makes it ride lower, but what good is the shock if you cant use all of its travel? Looks like I need LT a-arms and shocks.

no i dont have LT. i dont bottom out my front because it was set too hard from the factory. i called elka about it they sent out new springs, i put those on and it is still to hard. i think they put down that i had +2 a arms or something. when the shock is compressing it will hit the last spring and just stop there. the last spring doesnt absorb like it should. so i am hoping that when i get my +2 +1 a arms and my front shocks revalved, jeff at quadshop can set them up better than elka did. btw where can i purchase steal braided lines for the front.
I think I got my galfers from Nacs, they are very good for the money, come already assembled. Or you may check out Denton Racing, they can hook you up.
