400ex Rebuild pics

Since the begining of summer ive been working on my quad...the motor was burning oil bad so i tore it down..found it wasnt the piston an rings but replaced them anyhow and did valve seals and other stuff. Got my frame pc'd..new tires and other stuff...IT turing out pretty nice but let me know what you guys think....

tires and rims 375
skid plats 200
powder coating 155
filter and outerwears 50
new bars 75
brake pad 50
bumper 90
new stock a arm and both tie rods 50


and prolly some other stuff...now that i have a job im planning on some new suspension and a new pipe...I shortened the one i have but i still dont like it..I dont race or anything , mostly trails and eventualy ill make my way to the track

umm..the frame cost me about 180$thats with shipping both ways...not bad compared to a local shop that quoted me like 325$...got it done by BK performance...Pappy does excelent work and coulnd of hit the nail on the head any better with the color...

yah..it will be running tommorrow afternoon..i ran out of time tonight...but for a crew of 3 people and about 3-4 hours we got a decent amount done..Ill get pics up after im done riding that beast:D

hey hey..it only took about 45 minutes to get the a-arms on and because the all the wholes were too small after powdercoating lol

man that frame is bad a** i like it alot , makes me want to get mine done like that. would that look good with yellow plastics on or not.

a little update....got it running tonight around 830...had a small oil leak..quick fix with an o ring. The motor fired right up and runs like a charm..ive yet to ride it because it was too late but ill get some final product pics and some action pics tomm.

its all back together and runs like a charm...i need to clean up the plastics a bit but last night i was more concerned about getting it running than making it look perdy

I want to get some new plastics..i think im gonna keep those thru the winter and buy new ones when i get ym taxes back or something..they were pretty expensive so i didnt need them as a priority so i got other stuff but i will eventualy, im just undecided on which ones to buy because i liek having the headlight because we ride lots of trails at night and such

I not absolutley positive if I'm right, but those holeshot fronts are a directional tire, and I think you have them on the wrong way. If you just switch the sides (right to left and left to right) of the quad they are on, they would be correct. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Im not sure if having them on wrong is detramental to tire wear, and didn't want you to waste a set of nice tires.

the quad looks great, i actually like the red and blue, but thats just me.

i dont think the tires have arrows on them and ive seen them run both ways so im not surte if it matters...maybe it does. if so someone correct me too

ok you bike looks good but if i were you i would buy black mier plastic. you can keep your headlights and i think it would look sick with that blue frame!!

Mine smokes also when I ride...what all did you replace...and did that stop the oil burnin'...also how much did the parts cost to do the job:chinese:

how much did it cost you to rebuild the motor...cause mines smoking like crazy too, and i am def. rebuilding it this summer

umm.. total cost on the motor was

100$ for Piston+rings
25$ for valve seals
20$ for gaskets
30$ for valve adjustment...


so 175$ and i did all the work myself except the valves/

Thats not too expensive...was yours making a ticking sound before you replaced everything?

yeah...the ticking was the valves

k so mine is doing the same exact thing urs was....do i have to replace them or just re-adjust them

I took all my valves out to do the seals...all other parts were reused...u could do valve springs while your at it too..but all u have to do is get your valve clearances re adjusted

Here a pic of a blue frame with black plastics. Its my wife's quad. Black will show scratches but almost any color will.

yeah..id love to get some plastics but im set with red..the black does look sick but as long as my quad runs and stuff plastics arent as much a priority as getting a new car and stuff but deff. something im gonna look into in the future..thanks for the pic
