still not starting

I replaced the One-Way clutch and the flywheel key, i re-timed it because I took it apart to find out what was wrong with it (thought it may have been a valve problem in the beginning), and now it won't start. It turns over but it won't start. I checked the plug and it's still good. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it, and if there is anything else you need to know, just ask, in case i forgot something.

are you sure your timing is correct? Pull the plug, cover up up the hole with your fingure and see how strong the compression feels. If it is really weak you didnt put the timing back to how it should be.

did you make sure you had .006" on your intake side and .010" on your exhaust? if those get tight, the quad wont start up unless you "pop start it".

We found tonight that the timing is off, the flywheel has moved forward, meaning yet another (this will be the third) key sheared. I'm taking it to my local shop within the next couple days and have them see what they can do.

are you not putting the key in right or something? What would make you go through 3 keys?

I have no idea. As far as I know I'm putting the key in right, it only goes in one way. I think it has something to do with the amount of torque we put on the nut, the first time was no surprise, because we had no idea how tight it was, but the second time we got it as tight as we could go (about 95 ft-lbs) and it still sheared, but that was still under the specs, which are 111-125. We couldn't get it to go that high, so I'm going to bring it down to the shop and have them deal with that, hopefully it works.

Thats odd because the nut shouldnt even be touching the key or anything let alone really affect if it shears off. I have pulled my flywheel about 6 times this past week when putting my motor back together and have had no problems. Sounds like a wierd situation you got there

yeah, I don't understand it either. The only reason I brought the nut up was because I figured if it wasn't holding the flywheel tight enough, it might have enough force to shear the key.

if the nut is tight and it still shears it the only thing could be is the mag is wollowed out in the area of the keyway ??? did the nut back off the first time after you had it apart or had you ever had it apart before it sheared it
