I've seen this done, but don't recommend it. Unless YOU are an expert fabricator, costs usually soar and then in a couple seasons he will be too big and you'll have to sell the thing for pennies on the dollar or TRY to put the 250 back in it. But then it may be worthless with such a hacked on frame.

If you search you could probably find one of these because it seems you can't give them away.

Maybe a blaster is a better choice, I've seen 80 motors put in those quite often. Plus they are smaller in general.

Yeah a blaster frame will prolly do better. I have also seen them in 300ex frames.

yeah sacrifice a 300ex or blaster or even a mojave frame...stock R frames arnt made anymore and it mkaes me sick to see them hacked up with motors that dont belong in there

i'm almost certain that the lil cr80 engine can be instaled into the R frame without hacking it up. if so then i say go for it.

you should be able to place the lil engine in there by fabbing mounting brackets that connect from the stock R mounts to the 80 engine.

if any alteration to the R frame is required then i wouldnt/couldnt do it.

first off thanks for the reply but i dont think of puting a 90cc motor in a r fram is hacking. I will not be doing any cutting of any kind on fram or motor mounts. will fab some up.hacking is not safe! I herd of guys doing this just looking for in put. be sides who can go out and buy full out mod 90cc used are 10,000.if you can find them

Honda86, I know a guy with a full race 250r for sale, I almost bought it but it hasn't ran in 2 years, needs a-arm bushings, brakes are locked up, blah blah blah, FTZ built motor, all he did was race it, its fast, 3" shorter swinger........He races FT.

And don't mess up a 250r unless you can get it back to original when he gets older. Get the Cobra 70cc or wutever it is. If I have a kid thats wut I'm ganna get him.

Get him started where he should be.......on a 2-stroke!

Here you go, one already done. I'm sure if you want to sell your 250R you could offset the cost or it might be just too damn far away.

go with a 250r, but don't cut and weld the frame much. I'm sure it can be done with fabricating the bottom motor mount and custom front and a head stay mount made. When he out grows the 80 motor, put a 250r motor in there. Too many r's have been hacked to death, if you can, find a full aftermarket 250r, they sell for around 6g's now.

I know you want the handling of a 250R but how well could the 80 motor pull all that extra weight? The dry weight of a cr85 is 144lbs and the dry weight of a stock 250R is 328lbs. Usually people but bigger motors in them not smaller.

Just something to consider.

If you want I'll sell you my 89 frame for 100 plus shipping. It wouldn't matter if you hacked it up cause it needs so much welding as it is.

if the r is 328 lbs. stock what is the weight of the motor?shave off some other parts that could go lighter. my son has a full mod.predator 90 that dry weight is 262 lbs.they cr80 port, polish,or stroked to make an 89cc will make some good horsepower.nothing compard to an worked 250 but then again its for an 12 year old to race.
