I realized that my swingarm pivot bolt is bent and will have to be replaced. Baldwin sells one for seventy bucks but I can get a the stock bolt for llike twenty. Is an aftermarket bolt really worth that much money???

it wouldn't be to me normally, but if it would keep from seizing up, then maybe so :D the stock pivot bolt is kinda soft, but i don't think it's necessarily too weak. jmo though.

I really can't see paying $70 for a bolt. I would put in a grease zerk in a stock one. That or pull it out and grease it once or twice a year.

I figure I bent one stocker and the next one will suffer the same fate. Unforunately there aren't many options for aftermarket pivot bolts. Breaking one at the wrong time could be disaster.

I'm surprised more people don't have this problem.

oynot400 can I put a grease zerk in the stock swingarm? If so do you have the measurements from each side?

I think there are alot of "bent" pivot bolts out there. That is why people have problems getting them out. I don't thing you want a hard bolt in there. It may cause more problems. Do they say anything about it other than the price? I would be curious to know.

I have heard of people installing grease zerks in a stock swing arm. I have not done it, although I was going to. I figure I will get a Houser swing arm this winter. :D
If you have it apart, with the bearings out. drill and tap a hole where the bearing is. I would put a zerk in the bolt also with holes in it to grease the swing arm and the spacers.

Use the stock bolt and put antiseize on it. You need to pull the bolt and grease the bearings periodically anyway.

the spacers are where the trouble lies.. they gets siezed to the bolt..

take it out at least once a year (more often if you ride in a lot of water / mud) and lube it up.. or you'll never get it out when you need to..!

A little warning about putting grease zerks in alum. swingarm pivots. I did this several years ago on my 250R and a couple races later it cracked right through the little hole that I drilled for the zerk.:grr

Just take the Bolt out and put some Grease on it, then put it back in. That`s what I did. I didn`t have any Problems getting mine out I just used a Wood Rod to pound it all the way through.

the pivot bolt is just above the footpegs (I think the nut 22 mm). It the only one with a hole going right through the middle.

If you remove the rear shock and linkage then yes, the swingarm will come right out after your remove the pivot bolt.

Torque it to 80 foot pounds.
