I am thinking about going to a 41 tooth sprocket on the rear of my kfx400. I am looking for a little more low end torque. I was wondering who has done this and if you like it or not. Also am I going to need a longer chain?? Or can I get away with the stock one? Should I get a aluminum or steel sprocket? ( I do not race)
Thanks in advance!!!!

Have you gone to a 13 tooth up front yet.. Makes a world of difference

No I have not, I am afraid to lose to much top speed

Man i never even come close to top speed on the track, hell i don't think i even get into 5th. What do you need top speed for other than riding down a gravel road?

I actually spend a good amout of time on gravel roads. I had mentioned in my original post that I do not race

You're not going to notice that big of a difference with going up one tooth. I put on the 13t front and love it. I enjoy the compromise of top speed vs less clutching in the woods, climbing hills, powering into short distance jumps, and the wheelieing power.:D

So the 13t give you better pull through 3rd and 4th gear? Did you have to get a new chain or can you just adjust it out?

I adjusted mine out but if I were to do it all over I would get the newer chain just so I have more adjustability

So can be done both ways then thats cool.

Yes switch to a 13 front! Definately more power than switching to a 41 in back!

someone correct me if im wrong but....

1 down in the front equals to 2 and 1/2 up in the rear

so if you wana go up in the rear 2 or 3 teeth, u mine as well get a front 13 tooth sprocket (1 down in the front).

how come no one ever does bother like i have?
we went down to a 13t in front and up to a 42 in the rear,

likes its been said, you'll never really need 65+mph in a harescramble, so why not take it all the way down where 2nd is the lowest gear you need to be in

IMO i would go up in the rear before i went down in the front.<---that sounds hilarious huh? my brother has a 42 on his kfx and he likes it alot. i dont want to sacrifice anything on my Z so i keep it 14 and 40.

Hey is it gonna make that big of a difference going to a 13t with 18's in the rear?

Yes, it will make a pretty decent change with 18"s verses the stock 20"s. I noticed a big difference puttting the 13T with stock tires so, 18"s will definately be lower.

Also, My friend Brandon has the 13T front and 42T rear and it is a torque monster and he likes rockin out wheelies for miles and miles.
