Wow, they finally got rid of the 80's style :p .

I like it, I wish they would have said something about it before though.

I guess alot of ATVRiders got pwnt  by thinking they wouldnt make a 2007 model. I never thought it would happen either.

nope. It looks just like every other honda quad now. Now people are going to have to guess what kind of quad is riding towards them when they see one. They should have kept the other plastics. They did change the reverse, and its supposed to be easier to engage. Probaly a switch instead of the stupid lever.

What is it with all the manufacturs making all there models look the same. I don't realy like the old style but the new style is getting old already. I thought it was bad enough when the 400 got those plastics then the 250 then the 90 now this. I'm glad I still have my old school 300ex plastics!

i'm sure the good looking full bore plastic will still fit. i'm glad to see them doing something new to it

Schweet!
Hopefully the stock plastics will be cheaper now. That was a big downfall.

If they swapped that $500 steel tank for a plastic one as well.. we'll be rolling in sweetness.

It appears to have a different tank profile.. hard to say... looks can be deceiving.

I see nothing on the sidecase where the reverse lever went into the tranny. The must have actually engineered something instead of a bandaid fix.

Frame still appears identical.. or nearly identical.. so aftermarket plastics shouldn't be an issue.. (fuel tank could cause a problem thought.. new one appears taller.)

I really do like the way the 450r style plastics look on it.

I thought the 300 was toast.. lol.

First changes made in well over a decade.. lol.

Couple other things I noticed..

Rear wheel travel is 0.4 inches more. (6.7 to 7.1)
And, ground clearance increased slightly.

Must have made a change to the rear shock. Length is still the same.. so swinger didn't extend. Perhaps a change in the rear brake disk/caliper for the clearance. Using one from a different model with a slightly smaller disk?

Or, they just put more air in the balloon tires.. lol.

They should have put the 450r tires and wheels on it. Would have made it look and perform soo much better.

personally i like the new plastics, if anyone gets an 07 and rips off the plastics or especally the handlebar plastics i want them.

Werd. I've been waitin' for that to happen so I don't have to go throught the trouble of trying to put 400ex plastics on mine. Looks like they'll just bolt on now. And your're right BWamos, they should be much cheaper now. I never understood why the 300ex plastics were 3 times as much as the 400ex ones, but 3 times uglier. I should go to my dealer now and order a set, bcasue you know they'll be on nationwide backorder very soon, cause every 300ex owner is going to want a set.

Probably have to get another seat also. They are definatley different.

5 bucks says the tank is different too. I'd also like to see one in person to see if i could retrofit the new reverse mechanism.

the 300ex parts are so much more because they are made in japan and shipped here...400ex and most 450r parts are made stateside keeping final costs down...

i hate that it looks like the 450r's and all the other hondas...something needs to go...the 250ex, 300ex, and 400ex are all too similar now

The 06 450rs are made in japan.. The price on there parts is like twice what the 04/05s were:mad:

I say axe the 400ex. It doesn't need to be in the lineup. By the time a kid outgrows a 300ex, he or she should be able to handle 450R power.

hopefully the new plastics fit rigth and bolt on, cuz i think they said the 06 250ex plastics wont fit just right on the 05's and down....but idk...

You can see that the tank is new and I'd say with 99% certainty it's plastic. The front fenders mount to the tank like the 450R and the rear fenders are molded to fit right into the edge of the tank like on the 450R. They wouldn't make a new tank out of metal. It's no longer cost effective to do that. I think it's ugly overall and prefer the FullBore plastic for my future build.

I do hope they are now using the smaller rear brake system from the 400EX or 450R. I was looking at adding one of those systems to my build but maybe Honda did the work for me!:p

i like the old school look... it would be like making all the yamaha quads look like rapters or like yfz 450s (which they mostly do with banshee and blaster :p)

why is honda makeing all there sport quad with all the same plastic i think it is stupid and i like the look of the 300ex befor they changed it:(

I like the new seat, but I think i'll stick to my 98 model seat. Way more cushion. They could of came up with some 22in othsu tires that are more of a flat profile then them baloons. Them stock back tires work good in sand though, and they are light for being so big.

im happy honda updated the 300, its pretty nice now too, but i agree, all the quads are way to similar now

I think that the black makes it looks better, but I agree that each quad should have its own unique look. Are the head light from the 450 and 400 and the new 300 all the same?

I would hope so. Reduces production cost.

They should have put 400ex or 450r wheels on it. Get rid of the donuts.

What!?
The only thing that really costs more is the carb ...
pretty easy to figure out why.

The tank is also clearly plastic.. why would they make a cover for it instead of just putting a lighter plastic tank on it..

don't care what anyone else thinks, but i like it a lot. good change for the 300ex. it's just too bad they waited like TWENTY YEARS to change it.

i'll probably be getting one of these around january or so.

and would those fenders fit a 06 250ex?:p

IMO for all of you who complain about the fenders I think if you cut them it will looks great. What I don't like is that the fenders is basically the only thing they changed. Its had the same everything else for 20 years....I guess that is a good thing, but that also means that could have been 20 years of improvment that didn't happen.

dude are you kidding me?!?! If anything they should trash the 300ex and keep the 400ex!, and have a 250ex with the sportclutch, and they have almost as much power as 300ex's, and a 400ex will last much longer than the 300ex's will ever last! Not saying 300ex's aren't good but they are getting aged IMO. Have you ever ridden a 450r? or any of the new 450's out there? I have, and compared to my 400 they are rocketships, if a kid or any kid for that matter went from 300's to 450's there would be alot more injuries imo.

i totaly agree with yellow400ex, a jump from a 300ex to a 450 is a huuuuuge jump in power and performance. Now on to the 300ex, does anybody but me think that they might have changed the gearing or maybe uped the compression a little bit, im just hoping they did something performance wise and not all cosmetic, i have my doubts though:ermm:

the specs say it uses a CD with electronic advance. the older one uses a Solid-State CD with electronic advance? i don't know the differences and the overall length is .3inches more? so maybe a slightly longer swingarm? but from what i can see those are the only ones so far that i've noticed

i think its great that they make all sorts of different models,,all close to each other in size...honda isn't stupid,,,they don't make these things for the 3% of poeple who buy them to race them,,,they make them for the 97% who buy one,,,outgrow it in a year sell it and move up to next level,,,plus it keeps all those good ole used hondas out there,,,which means,,,people be returning to the honda service counter for parts....not many 4 year olds who outgrow and 300 or 250ex go right to a 450...i know there are some,,but its a small percentage....just be happy with what they have,,,HONDA has a quad for every single level and riding style...man you can't ask for much more than that.

Personally i like the new honda plastics, what i dont like is they are on all the new quads they make, they need to make some mroe orginality..honda ranchers rincon's rubicon's and even recons look simular. same for the 450r 400ex 250 ex and now the 300ex, they look pretty sharp just not original, the rubicon shouldve stuck with its plastic and the 450r shoulda stuck with its, and everyone else get a make over

i guess it is kinda boring if you think about it, couse they all look the same, but think about it like this, people who have a 300ex or other honda, who cant handle/afford/dont want/want reverse/etc but love the way the 450 looks, can have something that looks like it, and now all hondas quads look cool lol, i remember when i got my 250 at the begining of 05 and then the bigining of 06 i got the z, and i saw a new 250 in person at the dealer and i was mad couse honda didnt do that earlier. i think once the fenders are trimmed and some one hooks it up for mx it will be sweet, i cant wait to see a real one
