In my 06 , if you change the oil filter you put 1.55 liters in oil tank and 0.30 liters in crankcase (total amount 1.85 liters). if you don't change the oil filter, 1.55 liters in tank, 0.20 liters in crankcase(total amount 1.75 liters). This is from the owner's manual.

My manual says 1.75 liters with oil filter change...
I put .20 in crank case, and 1.55 in oil tank, then crank it over a few times without letting it start to move the oil around.

I had the same question so I went down to the local Yamaha Dealer. They told me that filling the resivore was all I needed to do, but check it after I let it run for a couple of minutes.

So basically your crankcase is running with no lubrication for a brief period. I put 750ml in my tank and 250ml in my crankcase. That puts my dipstick right on the full mark.

So the hose running from the bottom of the oil res that goes to the bottom of the crank doesn't fill up the crank? Not trying to argue but it seem to fill both when I did it. I used Yamaha oil is there a better oil that I should be using? Not use to this 4 stroke thing always had banshee's .

if you wondering if there is a better oil out there, try some Redline Synthetic oil, in the yfz, i'd run the 10w40
better starts and the engine will run alot quiter and smoother. been running redline in everything since about '94, banshee's raptors, 4-strokes, 2-strokes, you name it, it's the best, and the only class 5 synthetic with a full line of products. check it out

look for a dealer in your area, if you have any Q's, just ask
later
