Hey guys, Ive got a chance to get a real nice rolling chassis from a 1987 TRX 250X, however it has no engine. Will any other engines fit into this frame nicely, or does it need to be a 250X engine? I dont mind doing a little bit of fabricating, but nothing too major. Thanks guys.

I think you got into the wrong section. 2 strokes are where its at around here...

I have a 250x/350x conversion that I'll be parting soon. It has a motor from an 85 ATC 350X in it. Easy mod, and it is well balanced for the chassis. The motor mounts straight to the stock locations, no frame mod necessary, just a few spacers. Only 2 pounds heavier than the 250x motor it replaced according to my scale. A 300ex motor would also bolt straight in, but require battery mounts. I built mine from the frame up, too. I'll never get my money back out of the thing because of that. It was a fun build project-- just not as fun to ride as the R.

if you want some power in the motor, a 350x motor. You can mod the 350x motor to around 450cc's if you feel the need for more power.

I know some people need to see things a few times before they believe it, so let me reiterate what everybody else said.

If you want a nice power boost at minimum hassle, the 350X engine is ideal. You don't have to cut the frame, you don't have to weld new mounts. A couple spacers, and a little grinding on one of the mounts on the engine, and it bolts right in. Of all possible engine conversions, it's definitely the easiest.

The most difficult part is making the exhaust, but if you're willing to spend a few bucks, there is a company that actually makes a pre-made kit and exhaust for doing the 250X/350X conversion. It doesn't get any easier than that.

powroll makes the kit, wilkins250r is talking about, wiring instructions(to use 250x harness), pipe, engine mounting instructions and hardware. It doesn't get much easier.

Just to comply with the rules, I'm moving this to the proper section...
