front sprockets?

Hey guys, i get my new meats friday at noon...they r 21's. just wondering if it would be retarted to put a 16 up front? i thought about a 14 but dont want to loose top speed too much. With stock tires/gearing 2nd is alittle too high and1st is too low in the woods(i ride TIGHT woods) or should i just get a 14 tooth and try that in 2nd gear?
