I have an 03 z, i was wondering if i should just get a new carrier or get an aftermarket swingarm? Houser or Burgard? A new carrier is 150$?

Point in case!

Your going to spend anywhere from $500-$800 for either of those swingarm brands. Unless you are wanting a custom length or doing some serious launching, just save your $$ and get a new carrier. Your stock swingarm is stong enough to handle virtually everything you can throw at it.:muscle:

in my opinion the stock swingarm is a POS. the carrier is even worse!!!!! houser is a good brand but its about 800 with the carrier. if you dont mind the price tag then get the new swingarm. if you dont feel like coming off that kind of cash then get a good carrier.

Unless you are going a plus I see no sense in getting a new swinger, go with a Rad double row carrier that bolts up to the stocker. You just need to maintain accurate torque and clean up on the bolts to keep them from seizing up.

thanks guys. I would get the Houser but its a little too expensive for me right now, so i will probably go with the new carrier. Is there any way that you could change the way the 03 tightening system is to the 05 without buying a whole new swingarm?

Possibly if you get the rear plate off the 05 along with the carrier and do some cutting to your 03 swinger. Could be done I suppose but it could be risky. It may compromise the structural integrity of the swingarm.:eek2:

True, i have plenty of buds that half cracked their YFZ swinger also. It really depends on your needs. I for one will probably never crack my stocker..(no big air) but I would like a +1 1/4".

I have a 2005 stock Z400 swingarm and bearing carrier. I only used it for about 2 weeks before getting a Walsh swingarm (no cracks or wear). It is complete with all bearings and seals. The newer style swingarm seems pretty sturdy...I just wanted to change the linkage.

I am willing to sell both for around $200. E-mail me if you are interested...I have pictures.
