I was talking to a local Honda dealer on how I can get more power from my 400ex. I'm a little bummed about the power now that I'm used to the bike and being a 6'4 260 lb person I need some more power to get up those sand hills.

The Honda tech suggested I go with a 440 kit (not a stroker), which includes resleeving, piston kit, cam, and rocker arms for $1000. How much power will I gain from this???

my other option--

I was reading alot of posts here on strokers. I went to a local shop called Trinity Racing and they will completely install a 465 stroker kit for the bargain :blah: price od $2400. They claim 48 HP.
I know that this will definatly work for me power wise, but will it overheat? I do a lot of trail riding where I'm out for 3-4 hours straight on dirt roads.

A 440 stroker will be faster/more powerful than a big bore.

i rode my friends 450r and i want that kind of power, will a big bore do it? or am i better off paying for the 465??
I only want it if its a reliable modification; is it?

The stroker will give you more power. However, ANY rebuild, big bore, stroker, etc. can compromise reliability if not done correctly. You may want to take the money that you are looking at spending on the 400 and trade for a 450 if possible. A lot of shops are offering killer deals on leftover '06 models.

My 440 stroker is more powerful than my buddies 05R w/full exhaust/modded lid/filter/jetted and a 1 tooth smaller front sprocket.

My friends 05 450r is spanking me every time we race to to mention riding up steep sand hills usually i end up not following him because i start to bog down. I hope that Trinity Racing makes a good 465.
