rear axle bearing

are you supposed to put grease on the rear axles or some type of fluid in there and how all i see is a bolt on the bottom and i took that out but there is nothing in there sorry 2001 300ex

If you look on your bearing carrier there is a notch sticking out in the middle of it, that and the bolt your are talking about is a stop for the carrier. Once you hit that that means your chain is worn out. When i put my bearings and axle back together i put alil grease on the axle and the bearings.
