View Full Version : Trick My Warrior

I have a warrior that is going to be taken apart and rebuilt from the ground up. I would like to no do's and don'ts when I am doing this. I am going to be riding XC. It's already has a jet kit. I have a pro circuit slip on, and some nerf bars. I am in the processe of get a new frame. So I am going to have that powder coated with my swing arm and a-arms. Any help at all would be great.

You're going to do some GNCC racing? Best advice I can give you is full skid plates, six ply tires, a big fat front bumper, and a nice wide grab bar for if you need it. And before you spend money to go faster, get some good shocks so you're able to go faster once the motor is built.

gotwarrior
09-01-2006, 04:16 PM
I think I am going to get a PRM font bumber, Grab bar, and skid plate. Then I am going to get some used WORKS shocks with res. I will then have all 3 rebuilt at the same time. But as far as the motor I am undecided.

DirtDevilBT

The shocks are a great idea for xc. The tires too. But anytime you start putting on aftermarket stuff you add weight. Skid plates, 6ply tires, shocks, big bumpers, etc etc. I'd put some money into the motor before you PC the hell out of everything.

Find yourself a JE 10.75:1 piston and web .390 cam. Great low end gains. Along with other stuff, this is what I have.

gotwarrior
09-11-2006, 03:31 PM
with that pistion do you have to bore it out? I was looking some kind of topend kit that was just bolt on. But I never thought about a cam.

Since it needs a gasket kit, I was going to do all of that this winter. So in a ballpark what dose it cost for the came and pistion?

DirtDevilBT
09-12-2006, 10:03 PM
You don't have to bore for any piston, however it is highly recommended. If you get a stock bore piston, and your engine bore has worn down a bit, then you will not get all you can from the piston.

Get a 20 over piston, this is a very very small increase in bore size. Then take the piston and cylinder to a shop and have them bore/hone it to fit the piston. Cost is like 50 bucks I think.

The cam and piston, this being some time ago, was I think like 250. The cam you can get through Magic for 100 bucks. The piston you might be able to get at Magic too or Alba for about 135ish. Get the gaskets and your looking at about 350 with bore.

Always get a cam before you get a piston. :D

gotwarrior
09-13-2006, 05:09 AM
Now with doing this am I going to have to rebuild it more often?

DirtDevilBT
09-14-2006, 08:19 PM
no, the piston uses 3 rings and the cam is a low end cam that's mild on the valve train.

My warrior is awesome and doesn't have a problem with oil burning, valve train wear, or anything. Did all the work myself except the porting and boring.

My family has 2 03 warriors. Mine has work done to it, the other only has a pipe. Mine has twice the hours, yet for some reason the other smokes a little hehe.:p

gotwarrior
09-18-2006, 07:47 PM
Is there just like a kit that I can buy that has all of this in one?

DirtDevilBT
09-20-2006, 11:27 PM
Call up Alba, the number and ad is in DirtWheels somewhere. They have a couple warrior kits.

gotwarrior
09-29-2006, 11:39 AM
Well these are some of the things that I will be needing so if anyone know's were I can get them used.
Works Shocks
PRM bumper and grab bar
Skid plate

DirtDevilBT
09-29-2006, 03:05 PM
EBay for the shocks
RockyMountain for the skids and bumpers.
I like Armidillo skids, all three bikes have them.

krt400ex
09-29-2006, 03:23 PM
get pro armor skids. they r amazing. i hit a big chunk of concrete, it bent my a arrm and almost sent me over the bars. it was like 2ft around and i thought for sure my sprocket and skid plate were finished... nope, not even a scratch, nothing. best thing i ever bought.;)

gotwarrior
10-01-2006, 04:37 PM
I just put the A-arms on. I went ahead an put the stock shocks, and tires on so I can roll it around.

gotwarrior
10-01-2006, 04:38 PM
Here is what the other one looks like at this time!

gotwarrior
10-01-2006, 04:39 PM
Opps Sorry.

gotwarrior
10-02-2006, 05:26 AM
What do you think about the all black?

gotwarrior
10-02-2006, 06:29 PM
Just pulled the motor, and painted the swing arm and carrier. Everything seems to be going ok. I was hoping that this frame would work because of the big jump in years. I don't no yet if my carrier is going to work. When I took it apart the bolt holes work more of a 0 than a o Just a little. So I my be able to get it to work as is. But if I have to I guess I will get a new one.

gotwarrior
10-03-2006, 04:28 PM
Well it rollen againg. Everything went to back together ok. But I am going to have get new carrier bolts. They were a little thin. Pre owner must have not tighted them very well, so thats way it moved side to side.

MO-EX-RIDER
10-03-2006, 05:35 PM
EASIEST PART IS DONE....PAINT THOSE HUBS ALSO:p

gotwarrior
10-03-2006, 05:46 PM
Paint them black or blue?

elementryder
10-03-2006, 06:31 PM
blue and also paint your springs blue to

gotwarrior
10-03-2006, 06:49 PM
I am not going to mess with the springs because I am get to new shocks.

DirtDevilBT
10-03-2006, 08:47 PM

gotwarrior

gotwarrior
10-06-2006, 03:16 PM
Hey if anyone has any XC works shocks that will work on my warrior, and they want to sell let me no. I think that banshee shocks will work to.

DirtDevilBT
10-06-2006, 09:34 PM
Yeah, I have triple rates on my warrior and they work great, for what they are anyway. Pick some up on EBay, that's where I got mine.

FYI: I don't know for sure but I think banshee and raptor shocks are longer than the warrior ones. Might dork out the front end, lol

10-08-2006, 11:25 AM
Nice warrior...
Is your front tires on wrong? Looks like it needs to be the other way around...

gotwarrior
10-08-2006, 02:40 PM
I think so. I just put them on so I can move it around.

gotwarrior
10-10-2006, 10:53 AM
Dose anyone no if blaster shocks are the same length or not?Beacuse I can find alot more plaster shocks than I can warrior shocks.

2muchquad
10-10-2006, 11:14 AM
Blaster, banshee and warrior shocks will all work.the blaster shocks are maybe less than a 1/2 inch shorter but i have used all 3 before on my blaster. The raptor ones are the ones that are long.;)

gotwarrior
10-10-2006, 11:37 AM
So that half of inch is not really going to make a diffrence?

Because works banshee and blaster shocks are alot easyer to find than warrior shocks.

gotwarrior
10-10-2006, 11:44 AM
But I have noticed that when you are looking a shocks on ebay it says warrior/blaster and banshee/raptor.

Which one do you think work better the blaster or the banshee?

10-10-2006, 06:15 PM
I would get banshee shocks;) (works)

gotwarrior
10-10-2006, 06:20 PM
why banshee over blaster? Just wanting to no.

gotwarrior
10-27-2006, 11:43 AM
Well, Here is a update...

The motor is in the shop. Getting the oil leak fixed. I waiting on him to call me to tell me if he has to bore it or not. Then when I fide that out I have to order up a piston..

Next I found shocks. I found some banshee shocks which I think should work, it should just raise it up about a 1/4 of a inch. But the only problem is that the shocks springs are powdercoated pink:D :D :D Which nothing a shock cover can't fix.

Last night I ordered up some bolts for my carrier bearing. Because the others were junk. I also order a 12th spocket.

I have been kicking around places that have the cheapest maier plastic. Ronnies Mail Order is what I came up with. But new plastic is a little ways down the line.

So now my hold up is the motor. As soon as I get everthing back together then I can worry about cosmetics.

DirtDevilBT
10-27-2006, 06:28 PM
eh, running plastics is just a phase. Run it with a seat and show off the goods. lol:D

gotwarrior
11-01-2006, 08:08 PM
Well I found some elkas for $300. (BRAND NEW STILL IN THE BOX) So I am going to get some money and try to get them on monday.
I think that would be way better than some used works shocks.

DirtDevilBT
11-02-2006, 07:03 PM
yeah, that's a score any way you look at it.

gotwarrior
11-10-2006, 10:12 AM

I have looked on e-bay and there really ist any race plastic on there. And I watched one go for about 200 bucks more than i could get from my local dealer. And that was some plastic that was messed up.

And besides a little touch up never hurts anything if I have too.

gotwarrior
11-30-2006, 06:11 PM
Well my motor is just now getting started on!!!:( And the guy pulled the piston out and there was a peice missing about the size of eraser. Which fine because I was going to get a new piston anways. But now he has to crack the whole thing open and try to find the piece, or see if it is even in there.

So now its going to be even longer before I get my motor back.

Then I also picked up a new brake calipar off of here, which should come next week also. So when I get everything on I will be sure to post some new pictures..:D

But I do have this on order.
-PRM Summit Bummper
-PRM Grab Bar
-AC Skid Plate
-Alba Nerfs
-10.25:1 Wiseco Piston
-Gasket Kit

The motor is getting a little closer to being done. I order a case puller. So when that comes in I should be able to see if there is anything wrong down below.

given me good ideas for my g/f busted warrior. She races xc and had 22's....I bought her 20s and her dad *****ed about them being too small, I see most of you guys run 20s so i dont feel so bad......keep it up, looking good.

2muchquad
12-28-2006, 11:12 AM
I run 20s for xc,its just about perfect as far as ground clearance and handling goes.I get too much body roll with 22s plus they tax the motor and clutch in the mud around these parts.;) 22s are good for the fronts though

katch26
12-28-2006, 12:03 PM
yeah she got 22s for the front...I thought 21s would be more even but I dont think the 1 will make a difference. Thats what I thought too, I got her gncc in the 20 I was originally gonna get the razr 2s but I know theyre heavy in the 20s I imagine it would be hard on the motor and or clutch like you said. I know they come with 22s originally but theyre cheap tires and prob weigh as much as the one I got her....6 ply and all.

12-30-2006, 03:27 PM
Along with the other stuff listed, put a new D.I.D. cam chain in it. Kibble white valves, there 540 lift chrome cylicone valve springs, and stiffer(dirt digger like 15 bucks) clutch springs in it also. I went with a white brothers cam(.440 lift all around) arias 10.5 to 1 .020 over piston. Big gun complete with stepped header. and ported the stock head. Just threw on a prodesign with and run a vented lid. Used the dyno jet kit, 148 main is pretty much perfect with the stock pilot jet. middle clipp position.

Kenda klaw xc tires is what I would reccomend. Also running the works shocks. Intake and exhaust and the shocks were the best bang for your buck things.

Ive pounded on this motor for a few years now and have had no problems with anything. After break in I haven't even needed to adjust the valves. Just change the oil 3 times a season and clean the air filter, grease the chassis.

I also gear up one tooth in the front for some more topend in the open areas.

When you buy the warrior race plastic from maier the send you pecies to make the stock hardware work.. It comes with some clamps and extenders to make it all work..

yfz450inMI
01-19-2007, 08:19 AM
So did you buy Warrior race front fenders or YFZ front fenders? You've been calling it YFZ front fenders but it is Warrior race look fenders that look very similar to stock YFZ front fenders?

I don't care about the extenders and brackets. I want to know if stock YFZ plastic will fit, or if the Warrior race look fenders aren't truly the same dimensionally as stock YFZ fenders.

I guess I'll just have to pull off my YFZ front fenders and check for myself.

im sure if he got his 240 in it he would be untouchable, where are you getin that by the way, in the woods i think a stock blaster would take alot of quads because its so tighe and not really wide and its really tiny length wise too. bu its all in the rider

h3ll if i know. project blaster sucks. if it wasn't for the low prices i would never shop from them. this is the second time that they have screwed me with my parts. they haven't even billed my dads account yet so who knows when it will be here:mad: :grr: :scary:

call'em up and get on them, my uncle sent in a kx85 and they were takein forever to do it and he shiped it to texas and he lives in WI so it wasnt to cheap to ship and then the rider was goin to loretta lynns and he was luck that ryan dungie(sp) let her ride his old bike and then he called them up and got on there case and they sent it back right away and then she got it and 2 weekes later it blew up in a big race and he sent it back and didnt have to pay for it and it was down and back in about 8 days they moved fast becasue they know that he wasnt happy with them!

if you do work with some oenthey should puts around spically id its just sendin a head isnt that what your doing? or are you sendin your motor in?

razr2 fronts are amazing. they work likea sand paddle in the snow and mud, but they hook up so well on hardpack, and the steering is alot light with them. excellent tires IMO

What are you going to do about starting if cant figure it out ?

Hey whats up with those razer 23s that you found ? I want a spare set with wheels, dont matter if their bent a little I just want them in case I slash a front tire. I will give you the money this weekend plus some gas money if you pick them up for me.

You missed a hell of a ride Sunday at flat river !! Brian told me to tell you that my over rated dampner saved my *** fro some nasty woops !!

+2's on a warrior would only make it about 47"... that's barely wider than a stock yfz.

i still would of kept the stock with on it.. your that much more narrower over the hole feild and then you can just go that much more faster... depending on the rider... there was a kid on a stock LTR and my buddy was on a full Mx race ready 450r and the kid onthe 450r was goin through every thing and the ltr could get past the first set of trees....

Its that not that much wider than anything else out there in XC.. It could be about two inches narrow because I have the wrong offset on my front wheels... And besides my opptions are pretty small when it comes to aftermarket arms for warriors.
