The AMA/ATVA government relations department will be conducting a Ride Into Political Action seminar at the National Conference Center adjacent to the Ramada Inn, 399 Monmouth Street, East Windsor, New Jersey on Saturday October 12, 2002. We’ll begin promptly at 8:30 am and take until approximately 6:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. If you need to make room reservations call 609-448-7000. Immediately following will be a reception for those wanting to be involved in forming a new statewide OHV organization.
We will identify common political objectives throughout the diversity of riders and learn to function with existing infrastructure to strengthen the collective voice of motorcyclists, ATV riders and other OHV enthusiasts in New Jersey. We will discuss ways to maintain relations with elected officials and bureaucrats in your area. Other topics will include speaking out for OHV recreation, lobbying in Trenton and at home, writing editorials for local media, attending political fund raisers and receptions, effective letter writing and involvement in political parties.
On Sunday October 13, 2002 the AMA/ATVA will sponsor a meeting, in the same location, to allow all interested parties to begin the formation of New Jersey’s new OHV statewide voice. Russ Ehnes, Executive Director, National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council will moderate the meeting, while Bill Dart, Public Lands Director of the Blue Ribbon Coalition will be a guest speaker.

Why New Jersey and why Now?

Not satisfied with Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulation that prohibits the operation of off-highway motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles in state parks and forests, Assembly member Eric Munoz (R – Summit) proposes to ban them as a matter of law. In May, Munoz introduced Assembly Bill 2238 which not only reiterates the general ban on motorized recreation but would also prohibit the DEP from permitting any motorized “special events” in state parks and forests.
Now the same anti-access campaign that prompted the Munoz bill is being employed to bias Governor McGreevey against off-highway motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle enthusiasts. Clearly, anti-access special interest groups plan to scuttle any opportunity for public motorized recreation in New Jersey.
It is imperative that New Jersey’s elected officials hear from the motorized community.
This weekend conference is designed to bring all interested parties to the table for training, discussion and empowerment to secure a positive future for OHV recreation in the Garden State.

yes unfortunetely they have decided to do more enforcement before giving us legal areas to ride...but that will all soon change, this meeting will help us put together a state-wide organization to be the voice of motorized users..we think the # of users is over 100,00..

please spread the word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not over 16 but am very interested in this topic, but since I am not old enough to be an AMA member and don't have a profession it won't really matter if I go correct? My voice doesn't even matter really since I am not of voting age either.

So my question is should I go or not?

you do not have to be over 16 to be an AMA member. And you do have a voice. You are a resident of NJ, you have a right to an opinion. It will be a learning experience for everyone who attends, it is your choice.

08-31-2002, 10:40 PM
I would think that anyone who is interested in offroading in NJ should attend. This is the way for us as a group to be heard, and I hope it is the begining of the end for our state to discriminate against atv's etc.

Is there a phone number to get info??

I hope to see some of you at the seminar.

Ran across this BS in the Newspaper and since its where I "used to like to ride" I thought I would share it.

MX Park in Forked River caught in red tape (http://www.app.com/app2001/story/0,21133,612656,00.html)

Its a bout a local land owner in NJ who is "quad friendly" and has been trying to get his property the OK for use as a MX or off road track.

I think may of you may have rode in or near there b4.

C'mon lets be heard.

good place off the gsp, forked lake
i rode there a couple of times, with permission
still got bothered and was told to leave by a-hole rangers
i am attending the nj conference,i live in ny and need to know the need for places to ride stretchs that far..
they need to get right, look at how well njorvp had done not only for the sport but for the community.

Zukirider, thats a great place but the heat has been turned up at all the "great places" by the Nazi's of the div of fish and game so its no suprise that they would be harassing you on private property.

I have heard of this many times and there have been guys using tape measures and pacing off distances from trees to see if they were on state or private property, and yes the rangers have been asked to leave but from what I have seen and heard they dont like to leave empty handed.

Please everyone and anyone who rides drives or even bikes on or off road please try to attend or atleast fill out the form so you can be part of the changes in how our state treats all of us.

You can make a diff and it doesnt matter what you drive or ride since these laws effect everyone. If you think your not effected because you just have a 4x4 or drive 90% on road your dead wrong. These guys target whoever they like and it changes like the weather so please get involved cause the politicians need to know that we are more than a couple of rednecks.

Hey Len whats new

05-06-2003, 05:43 AM
Nothing really, but I am a little more than curious how things are moving a long in the political arena.

I keep seeing injured riders and summons being handed out but have not heard much on the promised new ride areas from the state.

You can understand that many riders are anxious to hear some good news myself included.

Thanx
