I have rode both and they feel about idinical. The LT was a little faster.

They would both be a great starter quad.

My GF had hers as a starter quad and she outgrew it in a year and bought a KFX 400.

The good things about them is that you can pretty much get your money back out of them.

She bought hers for 3100 and sold it for 2500. Prabaly could have got more out of it, but I sold it to my grandma.

i thinks hes talking about the ltz250. if u want it to have manual cltch u can buy a hydrolic clutch to make it a maunal.

If he isnt going to be competing with bigger quads on a track, a 250 will be fine, but if he will be riding it hard most of the time I think you should just have him ride a 300ex.

I don't know out of the ex and ltz which is better, but I do know that the 250ex will NOT die, almost whatever you do to it.

i personally think out off experiance you should get him the 250ex.my dad got me it as my first quad and i love it,im starting to mod it up kinda like a litle project since its my first ever quad i would like to keep it asslong *** i can.it is a fun atv to ride and very reliable.he would love it:D and it handles and jumps better than what peaple say it does

MY GF had a 250ex and she took it to the dunes and had a lot of trouble climbing some hills with it. How old is your son? Maybe yo would want to get him a 400ex or maybe even a blaster

i would say the new 250ex because of the sport clutch. it will help him learn how to ride a clutch for when he steps up to something bigger. it will also come in handy being able to slip the clutch to get power in the dunes

My GF had a 04 250ex and it was semi auto. did they change it to a clutch? everyone is saying they have a clutch.

Maybe I am miss undertanding

Isn't semi auto mean you shift but without a clutch?

What is a sport clutch? Same thing?
The LTZ250 or Z250 and 250ex have the same semi clutch system unless they have changed since 04

I bought my stepson a 2006 250EX for Christmas, they do have a Rekluse style SportClutch, dont have to use it, but it is there and makes shifting under power just like any other sport quad, I have done the following to it:

HMF Full System
JE 11.5:1 High Comp Piston (.020" overbore)
Web Camshaft
ITP Bajas
Razr2s
DG Nerfs
DG Front Bumper
Wide Rear Grab Bar
Elka Front Shocks (sport with no resi)
2001 Raptor Rear Shock
ProCom CDI
EHS Racing Air Box Lid
Dynojet Kit

I will spank stock 300EXs in 300', topped out at 62MPH on GPS, you cannot kill it, will not stall and die, great low end torque, good top end pull, very smooth power, handles the rough stuff well, I do have alot invested in it, but that is what I wanted to get him, he is only 13, weighs 110lbs, when he grows out of it, his younger brother can grow into it, he can nearly keep up with my Prairie in the woods, rides it with no fear

You can also look in to the trx90s. They have great potental for mods and are bulit proof. My brother (10years old) has one and he fits on it great ( hes not small eather hes a big 10 yearl old). i ride it alot at 6 ft and 250lbs and it hals me around like nothing. my friend has the trx250ex and its ok. my brother has riden it and liked though. he was 9. i think the z250s are great quads like the trx250ex but there nice to. if you want a sport like quad with with more utility feachers and racks for protection look at the ozark 250. my dad had one and it was a great quad untill the day it was stolen. the ozark is the z250 brother with the same motor. personaly the ozark feels like it handles better than the z250 and the 250ex.

my brother has a 04' ltz250 , and he loves it , i used to drive , but i grew out of it and got a 400ex . my brother is 12 and its not enough for him anymore, and wants my 400. i would have to say the ltz250 is a better overall quad than 250ex , but dont get me wrong , the 250ex is a good machine also , the ltz is a little faster , and the handling is a little better too. either way you cant go wrong with suzuki or honda

i own a 250ex and have ridden the Z250

Z250 handles better than a EX, hands down

that said the Z250 felt SLOW, no low end power like the EX. it does rev out a little better

the EX feels more refined and smoother, better built.

u aint talkin about the 06 250ex me and my boy race for miles and my 06 250ex woops suzukis by a lot and he got it modded and he beat me by 1 atv he has a dg pipe jets and k&n but now my 250 ex has an fmf pipe k&n magnum rev box and jet kit ind im keeping up with piped out warriors mine tops out at 64mph acording 2 my trail tech spedometer and ive ridden the suzuki and its hard 2 shift and it has no top end and it sucks at handeling compared 2 my 06 250ex. and now i can beat the suzuki lik 7 atv lengths and in drags i wheelie past him so get a 06 250ex honda is better even dirtwheeles says its better also its has better suspenhion handeling and top speed i dont know what 250ex u ridden but i know it is not a 2006 honda rules

64mph ?! 300ex's and raptor 350's do that speed not 250's . you should read dirt wheels more carefully ! the ltz 250 and 250ex is pretty much even . ok

a heavily modified 250EX can push speeds like that, look at my mods above, it will do 62 on GPS,

for the person above asking about the raptor rear shock, it fits perfectly, it is about 1/4" shorter eye to eye measure than the 250EX stocker, but loads better, I just mounted the resi on what would be considered the subframe (even though the 250EX is one piece) only problem is adjusting the compression on the shock, you have to mount the resi so the screw is mounted towards the tool box area, a little difficult to get to

it basically comes down to peferance. i know the lt250 is a little faster because it is a 249cc, unlike th honda which is 229cc. But if you plan on your son later stepping up, the 2006 honda has a sport clutch which is a great tool, that can be used as a manual cluth or not used and ridin as an auto.

We just got an 07' 250ex. This thing is awesome, its perfect for my 13 year old brother. He can't throw it around that good yet as he is pretty light, but with the sport clutch he can power slide easily. Its a very good quad for beginners. DO NOT get anything smaller than a 250 for your son, he will grow out of it so fast... My uncle bought his kids a Raptor 80 and 3 months into the purchase they are bored of it because it is to slow.

The 250ex handles pretty good, of course nothing compared to my 450r, but I can hit the trails at really fast speeds. The only complaint I have with the 250ex is that its gearing is really low, first gear shouldn't even be there. The suspension on this thing is very smooth and great for jumping, I can get 4-5 feet of air and land real smooth on flat surface with no problem.

trust me the 06 250ex is faster the suzuki has cc's 4 nothing its not that good it just has more throttle response than the 250ex its has no top end at all when my brother and his frien raced with both stock and my brother weighs 145 and his friend 95 my the z250 had the acceleration but my brothers stock 06 250ex had mid and top end and after they both hit 3rd the 250ex left him in the dust my brothers toped out at 56 an the z250 at 53 and the on mine i catch up 2 stock warriors and i beat kfx250's i dont think u should go with the z250 those cc's dont do crap o and if u get a 250ex get a rev box it does alot trust me the gears on mine are long because of that and they dont have that many performanc parts for the z250 if u are thinkin to hop it up 250ex rules

I've never ridden an LT250, but I have ridden a 250ex quite a few times. The 250ex is a good begginer quad, but your not gonna get it on the race track. They are great for the trails though, and are very reliable. Anything I said is considering the 250ex stock.

I bought 2 new quads this summer. I got me the 400ex I always wanted and the gf a 250ex. The 400 is all I ever wanted and more. Before that we had a Banshee, LT160, 300 Fourtrax 4x4 and a Wolverine 4x4. Basically ditched them all for 2 nice new ones.

The 250 is freakin sweet. Its can rail down trails and isn't nearly as tiring as the 400 especially in the tight stuff. It can wheelie so good too. I think its just as much fun as the 400. Honestly its a toss up between which I take. Having the cluctch (but not needed it) is a blast. I am always poppin the clutch n stuff.

The clutch alone would push me towards the Honda.
