I just bought 01 400ex from a friend of mine that took it to Pismo Beach a couple times without cleaning it. Now the frame has some rust. What could i do to help stop, or remove the rust?

wire brush...but that will take paint off too.

cosmoline will inhibit future rust, but it is a sticky substance that might become annoying.

i would just keep inside, after each ride wash and spray anything that can rust with wd40 or rust inhibitor before putting it away.

wire brush the rust off, don't worry about taking paint off, because if you really want to prevent the rust, you will need to paint over the spots to seal them up anyways... And your friend taking it to Pismo a couple times isn't the reason for rust, it probably added to it, but any riding will eventually lead to rust. Anytime you scratch the paint off, you will get rust. Eventually the moisture in the air will cause the rust. I hit Pismo alot, and yes it is important to wash after riding there, as it is to wash after riding anywhere. It is just good preventative maintenance.

Wire Brush then touch it up with some paint. Also wipe it down with WD 40.
