i would recomend a banshee for you. You can find them pretty nice for good prices. Ur dad should get a 400ex.

No don't get a Banshee OMG that would be a bad starter.

I would start out with the ones you said. There both real reliable and great starter quads. Also look at the Suzuki 400 Kawasaki KFX 400. They are also great quads.

I'm gonna have to say you both should get 400ex's. Not too much too start on, but theres enough bike there to last you awhile. Not to mention the thousands of aftermarket hop-up's available.

BTW...Welcome to the site!

LOL at banshee, thats not a starter bike... I started out on a utility quad but you would prob like a auto clutch, man shifter sport quad... 250-400cc range... anyone have any quads they know about like that? My cuz has some 3 wheelers like that lol

Z400/KFX400 would be a great starter quad. Decent power, reverse, comfy seat and stance. You can find them pretty cheap now days also. Good reliablity too.

Let me give you some spec

A Banshee is a 2-stroke quad that needs more matience then most quads. they also have a midrange to topend power band that can be uncontrolible, excepicially for a starter.

the 400ex is a very reliable 4 -stroke that has a 5speed manual transmission. Very easy to learn on and has power to last you years.

The Z400 KFX 400 and DVX 400 are the same as a 400ex except they are a little faster, they are liquid cooled and have reverse.

Also what helped me was I bought a dirt wheels magazine and subscribed to it. It tought me alot about quads

Hope this helped.

I started out on a Banshee at 14:confused: .

Don't listen to anyone, if you're going to be doing 100% dunes go with a Banshee or a 450 otherwise you'll regret it later on when you're upgrading to one of those anyway.

Just leave the Banshee stock for awhile and once you get used to it start modding it accordingly to what you can handle, it's what I did.

400ex for both of you. the banshee would kill you as a first quad imo

i think a 400 ex for me would be a little much

im thinking about the 350 raptor

The 350 is nice, but it is a pooch!! Be smart, get something that will last you a while. Just like anything else, you will get comfy on it after a ride or 2 and want something faster.

just because you are starting i would recomend the 250 ex that will last about 2 years, then you can have your dad's quad. i'm sopuosing that your dad is also starting, so he will want a new and bigger quad.

you say that you dont want to race, and the 250ex will help your skills, and its fast enough. thats just MO.

deffinately... 400exs have alot more power than the 350raptor/warrior, but its not that big of a difference. to sum it up any of the 400's would be great for you and ur dad.

400ex for both of you. the banshee would kill you as a first quad imo

400ex are nice for trails and stunting...but i mean i just got my first quad a couple of months ago and i was lookin at a z400 but then i got on my friends banshee and i automatically fell in love...im just sayin if you want a hella fast quad when its stock get the banshee

thats exactly what im doin but after the first week i was ready to mod it(but i think you have to have some balls to ride it) but still its a good first choice

Any 400 would be good for both of you.Suzuki/Kawi/Honda

Trust me, a 400ex is a great quad for someone just starting out. easy to ride, easy to control and easy to maintain. And when your ready to go a little faster or step up your riding, the trusty 400ex will be ready for it!

Id go with a z400 or kfx maybe even a dvx 400 since your gonna be riddin in the dunes and the honda is aired cool and the suzuki kawi and arctic cat are liquid cooled. Pluse they make great starter quads and can be modded pretty easly.

HAHA lmao

Anyways....

I started out on a 89 warrior. It was a good quad for me but after about a year I was beating the hell out of it cuz it was so so so slow. I would get a 400ex or a Z or KFX

I would agree.

2 400ex's.

Many positives.. no negatives.. lol

Interchangable parts. Only have to know how to maintain 1 quad. Very reliable. Very easy to ride. One of the easiest to ride. Very predictable and smooth power. Well balanced.

400ex is the best starter quad for anyone over 150lbs in my opinion. The 400ex is easier to ride than the 300ex is.

new

get a Z400

you will want reverse!

09-01-2006, 08:12 AM
a new 400ex has reverse and the are listed around 5900. you should be able to get a deal with buying 2 at once though. my guess would be that you could get them for around 5200 or 5300 each out the door...
