Well i have came to the conclusion that after i get my quad set up for 2007 race season Im gonna build an S10.

I wanna drop a v8 in it and get it on bags. Getting the suspension done will be the easy part. But I got some questions on the v8 swap. My grandpa has been around cars and engines his whole life and was a mechanic for years. He can get me a 350 or 400 motor.

I was just wondering if anyone on here has done the v8 swap and would want to help me out when i have some questions.

Post pics of your Sdimes or Sonomas

There was actually just another thread on this the other day.

Go to this site. Get the book on S10 V8 Conversion, it tells you everything you need to know. While you're at it, order the engine mounts too if you're actually serious about it.

www.pirate4x4.com the equivilent of this site in 4x4 and rockcrawling. they should be able to help you out.

your going to need, motor, tranny, transfer case, custom driveshafts, new front suspension, my suggestion is a solid axle swap, alllllll new engine harness/dash harness. all the motor accessories, ac pump, rad, condensor, alternator, etc.

I have been researching it a lot and if you get a 94 v6 4.3l s10 you can use the wireing harness of off that. You can get the stock drive shaft shortened. And I think a guy said if you want a cheaper route you can get the 4x4 tranny from a 94s10 and use that for a tranny. I can get and engine and trans for next to nothing. Hopefully a 350.

I will also need some new gears in the back and might do axles. Im not gonna make it a 4x4 truck, its gonna be on air bags.

My dad and I did a conversion on one of the older, square style S-10's. It was awesome! The 350 doesn't really weigh that much more than the 4.3, so the frame and suspension held up great. You would think that it would just smoke the tires all day, but the weight transfer actually made it hook up pretty well. Even a mild 350 felt fast, so a built 350 (or better yet, 383), would feel like a rocket!! There are lots of conversion kits out there, so motor and radiator mounts, exhaust manifolds, etc. shouldn't be a problem. We used a TH350 trans and had a driveline made. You could also use a 700R4 if you want overdrive, but it won't handle as much HP. It's a fun project; good luck!

i can't imagine a v6 wiring harness is going to work for a v8...

just get a new drive shaft. it might be a tad more expensive, but your not ever going to have a problem with breaking it with the extra power.

ther is no way a s10 tranny will hold up to the power of a v8. even so your still going to have to change the bell housing and everything to get it to bolt up. just get a nice tranny made for a v8 and be done with it.
