I decided to strip my 400 down and paint the frame, sub-frame and a-arms (powder coating too expensive at the moment). Anyone have picks of their painted frame and how's it holding up?

I plan on using automotive paint with plenty of clear coat. There is no way that it will wear off in a week

I think It would hold up good if your not gonna have the money till later.
Im doing that right now. im getting alot of stuff coated on this rebuild, and on the next Ill get the frame done :) (by that time I might have bought my own PC'in gun, w00t!)

powdercoating would be the ideal way of doing it but as he said, he cand afford it!
there are paints that will hold up and are made for frames and such.a friend of mine did his with a black paint that is designed for frames. it doesn't chip and it is solvent resistent.i will try to find the name of the company that makes it.his is still looking pretty good after a few months.
i used some heavy duty automotive paint and clear to do my hubs and it only lasted 1 ride before it looked like crap.for now,i would try to find paint that is used for heavy equipment like dump trucks, dozers and such.
you can also check out www.eastwoodcompany.com they have many paints that are prooven to hold after serious abuse.

use some good strong enamel and put ALOT of hardner in it (dont screw up cause it dries before u can set down the gun to fix it) then throw in 3 coats of clear enamel with harner in both coats and you'll have a **** of a time tryin to get that off your frame. i ride in hay fielsd and creeks and high weeds and stuff since i've owned it and it's been on for over a year and still lookin good

I think shipping would be out of his budget tho. He'd pry have to find a local powdercoater.

We just finished spraying my frame and it's gonna look sweet when it done. I'm using an orange chroma paint (matches my Skin graphics) for the frame/a arms and the subframes gonna be black. I'll try and get some picks when the clear coat is finished. Except for alot of elbow grease the whole thing cost about forty bucks.

It's still gonna be better than what it was. I'm confident it will hold up for a year which all I need.

i painted my frame a while back about 3 months i think and i also did the aarms and swingarm. i ride tons of trails and in feilds and i have had anyhting come off yet except where i spilled brake fluid on my left aarm but i just touched it up. all i did was put on 12 coats of clear on it. now if that dont hold up for a while then i'll be suprised. heres a pic of it before.

i painted my 300ex frame and a-arms last year and its still holding up good, i did something different than most though, i sanded the entire thing down by hand, then used PJ1 primer and then PJ1 paint, i got it from rockymountainatv.com but you can go and get it from your local dealer if you want, i didnt put any clear coats on it and it looks good, and yes i powerwash it all of the time and i havent had a problem with it flaking or chipping

i'll try to find a pic, it came out good
