I have been having problems latly with my R running hot so I purchased a ESR engine temp gauge. But I have no base line to aim for. What should be my engine temp and when should the fan kick on. Also just in case what are some options to bring it down.

engine mods are as follows je 11.5 piston, falicon rod, hot cam stage 2, open air box, alba full exhaust.

Maybe your thermostat is bad.

Try Engine Ice.

I have the temp gauge working and the thermostat opens at the right time but it may not be opening enough. I will have to check it tomorow.

the impeller is good.

tried engine ice but it is a bigger prob than the fluid type.

It is not hot out here, quite cool actually. the bike should not even need the fan.

you can see that the gauge goes up to 150 and then drops back to 100 real fast. that is the thermostat opening, then climbs back up. the fan did not come on until 250. this fan is brand neww last week.

what else can I check I need to fix this asap I have a race on sat.

Take out the thermostat and ground the wire from the switch that is in the thermostat housing. That will make your fan run all the time.

O.K. here is the update tonight I drained my coolant out and put it on the stove to check the boil over point.

210 for the water wetter that I had in last night.
250 for the engine ice that I had in when this whole thing started

thermostat opened at 190 about 8mm this is correct acording to the manual. So it can't be the theromstat.

The fan dose not come on untill 250 wich is way to late. So I have bypassed the switch as sugested. This has caused the temp light to stay on, so that is now mym, your fan is working light.

I allso left the thermostat out to let even more flow through.

With the fan running and no thermostat the quad stays at just under 200 at idle and 150 on open trails.

but we still have no reson for the over heating in the first place.

Well the race was a mud fest and the bike held up well but I rode like crap. Anyhow with the fan wired on all the time and the thermostat out it was running at 150 after the race.

What I am wondering is with the sensor hooked up the fan only comes on at 250 wich is way to late. The fan can't cool it down from this temp.
If I replace the sensor the fan should come on at about 200 to 210. This will be my next plan of attack.

Any sugestions are welcome, has anyone else had these problems with cooling.
