polaris 500 scrambler over heats

I have a problem when i trail ride for more than 30 min or so. my four wheeler will back fire once then stop running till it cools down how do I fix this problem???? also I have a problem it will pull start no problem but when I hit the starter button it just clicks. somtimes when it is cold it will turn over but not when it is hot. help before I take a hammer to it.....

Is the radiator clean? you should be able to see through it. Is there fluid in it? I would replace the radiator fluid with engine ice. It could also be vapor locking.

Check for debris in the gas tank itself that could be blocking the petcock. Look for any pinched gas supply and carb/gastank vent hoses. Do you have a pipe and/or a filter? Did you rejet it correctly. Sounds like it is running lean.

Try to recharge your battery, if it doesn't charge replace it. The clicking is the solenoid.
