With 20's you will lose about 4-5 mph on the top end but you will gain low end torque and accelleration. I have 20's on my wifes 250ex and they work well for trails and it is easier to lift the front end when you want. You will lose about an inch of ground clearance though but it doesn't seem to be an issue unless you ride where there are deep ruts or deep mud.

You can go up a tooth on the front sprocket to get your top end speed back.

i have the 20s on my 400ex so i will swoop them and see how i like it.

the 250ex does get through areas my 400 hangs up on

its just that i was riding behind her and the damn rear was all over the place.......

Yeah the 20's on the 250 aren't a problem because it is shaft driven. It has more ground clearance in the rear than the 400 even with 20's so the 250 seems to plow through things pretty well.

I'm not sure the smaller tires will help with the rear bouncing all over though. The problem there is with the rear shock... or should I say pogo stick. I've noticed that a lower air pressure seems to help. 3-4 psi seems best but it still bounces around quite a bit with the stock rear shock.
