86-89 used the same patterns, 400ex, 450r and I think 300ex sprockets are the same. sunstar makes a 36t as the smallest, sunstar makes a 34t for 85 years only, 85 uses a different sprocket hub that really can't be used with a 86-89. I'm sure sidewinder makes a 34t 86-89 sprocket, but its pricey at around $100, sprocket specialists also makes them for about $80, but I very highly don't recomend them, I wore out a 36t from them on my 200x in about 8 hours of riding and it wasn't cheap either. the sidewinder I have on it has very little wear after about 30 hours of use.

I got a dumb question, why not get a 14t front and 37t rear, you will be nearly the same 13/34= 2.62, 14/36=2.57, 14/37=2.64. I would go with a 14/37 as they are cheaper and much easier to get sprockets. I use a 14/38 on my bikes, a 14/38 is a hard pull on stock like bikes for mx use, my bikes are far from stock and pull 14/38's with ease. Also what size tire are you using? 18", 20", 22", a 18 will pull fine on a stock like bike, 20" is stretching it, and 22" is way out of question. I used to use 14/39 on my trx250r that was used for mostly woods riding, it allowed me to pull 4th up some steep hills and provided great torque, this is with a 100 over motor, lighlty ported, 38 a/s, v-force reeds and pt type 6 pipe.
