so a few questions for the fellow members should i get a 416 wesico kit? or the 426 Je kit? im more for the je kit... but does anyone know the valve settings for the 426 88mm 11:1 compression piston?

oh ya and should i go ahead and get cams?

ok, the 400ex is only a single cam setup, not a dual overhead cam. so you only need one. however, YES, get a cam. the stock cam is very mild from the start. your valve clearance will be determined by the cam you run, not the piston. i would get a je or cp piston if it was me. both the 87 and 88mm bores will be pretty similar. you should not notice much difference between the two.

first off a cam is almost a must. it makes a huge difference in power when done with a high comp piston. the only real difference betweena 416 and a 426 is athe 42 will have a little more low end torque than teh 416, but other than that power is comparable. I would suggest a JE or ross piston. Wiseco is OK, but i would suggest others even though i am personally using wiseco in mine.

ya i knew it was jus a single cam ... so its Je 426 11:1 compression and hot cams stage 2 is what i need to go with correct?

it all depends on your riding style on what parts to get. if your running wide open dessert or racing on a track then yes the stg 2 is the cam you want but if your just a trail rider looking for more power you want the stg1. they both make more power than stock but you need to know where you want to make the power. stg1 is for down low.. torque so you have more climbing power ect. stg2 is more top end for high reving power. as for the piston you may want to consider a 416, this way you still have one bore left if you need your cyclinder cleaned up later on. and the 426 has very thin cylinder walls that have been known to crack every now and then.

alright i was jus thinking the same thing about the 416... i didn't wanna have to mix 50/50 or risk riding pump gas in the 11:1 compression

and im usually riding the track or roads... or wheeling in the yard ... everyonce in a while i'll touch the trails would the stage 2 effect the capibitlity to ride wheelies as easy as i can now since its more of a racing cam?

Not sure about wheelies and all,, I can't ride them. cuz I probally just don't know how.
But I have the JE piston kit 426 w/stage II
I had no idea that the stage I would give you better torque on the lower end. (thats what someone else said)

See below on what I have.... Love it love it love it.
I had a 440 in mine and the guy b4 me blew it up. I went with a thicker sleeve by LA sleeve and went with a 426.... again love it.

I think what other guys said about the 416 - 426 you won't see much difference... well then get the 416 probally a litter safer.

BUT if your doing this yourself and you have never put something like this together..... phifff good luck.. Its all about having it installed correctly and breaking it in the right way.
The big thing about break in is the cam.

WHEELIES,,,:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

I'm a little older and never had a quad till recent, rode bikes growing up but not that often. I think I'm probally just too afraid to lean back and fall,, I know I'm a whimp....:blah:

I go fast and have fun so wheelies will come soon enough.

416, 426 or even 440 If it is done right then you shouldn't have to worry.
Theres a lot of people with the 440's and no problems BUT I've seen many that blew them up even only doing the 416 or 426

If you don't build it right or break it in right... pow pow,, hammer hammer.. by by:mad:

I've had mine for a few months and NO PROBLEMS

mixing gas will cost you like $5 extra for a tankfull in you bike. its not like your riding it on a 100mile trip everyday. plus the mixed gas runs cooler even in a stock bike.
