ive been catching the moto gp series on speed these past few days, and they say its the 250 series, so i looked it up on the web in my interest. and i found that these machines are actually 2-strokes! i never knew that!

my question is, ive never seen an amatuer series for motorcycle racing, is there any?

i would like to find a series that i could possibly throw myself into if i got into the streetbike scene

and are all these moto gp 250 and 125 machines custom made? or are there companies that manufacture them?

they are works of art, i can say that much! especially the ktm, hahaha

Roadracing is awsome. You'll learn more about how to ride a bike in one weekend of tracktime then you'll get in a years worth of street riding. After my first weekend on the track I was a completely different rider. There's just some things you can ONLY learn on a racetrack.

Check out CCS (http://www.ccsracing.com/) and WERA (http://www.ccsracing.com/). Aside from what you can learn from your computer I'd highly recommend going to an amature racing event. Walk around the pits and talk to the racers. Most of them LOVE to talk about racing and riding. You'll see what kind of settups people have, which classes are popular (and which aren't), what bikes people are using, etc....

It's hard to beat an SV650 for racing. You can get them cheap, parts are plentiful, and they're elegible for lots of classes. Some of the more exotic machinery is great but tech support and parts may be harder to find.

Be prepared--roadracing can get expensive but if you've got the $$ it's worth it. I've known plenty of guys that have given up street riding alltogether and exclusively roadraced (me included). Once you get a taste of the track there just isn't any (legal or non-lethal) substitute.

i know yamaha used to make them but think the last year they made them was 03. they had a 125 and a 250. theyre so small too!

i think now theyre pretty much like 250rs, you find an older one or build one

..there in Spain you can see thesee races on the TV at weekends

the 2004 and 2005 250cc champion is Daniel Pedrosa (Spanish !!!!!) who actually is on moto gp, the biggest category of the championship, fighting against Valentino Rossi, who had winned 7championship in 125, 250, and moto gp

there are three categories on this championship

1- 125cc, 2-stroke machines, is the category of the rookies

2-250cc, 2-stroke too, this category is for learn to ride very fast, to know how the moto do on the turns etc..to ascned newt year to the big category

here is the official web:

there are a lot of tracks that hold am days, etc for different classes. theres one in oklahoma about 4 hours away that does it all the time. if its your first time, they throw pacers in, then you can ride at your own pace with individuals who ride about the same speed. if you have your license, they wont stage you rather hold it like a real race. then of course if you want to race then you have to do a lot more planning, etc... but its a lot of fun to just go out and goof off!

its a blast watching the 125's and 250's go around corners, they carry SO much corner entry speed its crazy! the supermoto bikes are fun to watch, and they can run with the 1000's too.
