View Full Version : oil plug - what way to turn it???

im trying to change my oil on my quad. and on my dirt bike i stripped it out, and im just trying to make sure i don't do it on this bike. but standing on the right side (like your looking at the bike from the rear), what way do you turn the plug to loosen it???(toward the front or rear tires)??? please help. becuase both ways, i have to put some real *** on it.

counterclockwise, as if you were looking up at it..towards the front tires

3/8 socket wrench with a 3 or 6 inch extension...that's what I always use since I'm too darn dumb to figure out the "turning something that is upside down" thing. I set the socket wrench to lefty loosey and don't have to worry about it.

The plug does stick in there pretty good and I'm always afraid that it's gonna break when I take it out, but steady pressure always gets it out ok...don't bang on it.

A ratchet doesn't "see" upside down, its either on or off.

That was my point. I takes all that "hard thinkin" out of the equation...
