i resently bought a 3" body lift kit for my 2004 f-150. i called my local 4-wheel parts and they said it takes aproximitly 14 hours to instal a body lift on the new body stile fords. he said they charge $65 to the hour and he said it cost about $910 for labor at that rate.. but he'll cut me a deal for $600 and have it for 3 days? think thats a good deal? or is he blowing smoke in my hear?

idk man...on some truck forums i check out sometimes, people and a few buddies do body lifts in one full day in their driveways...maybe it takes longer on a newer truck though  ...idk but it shouldnt take 3 days. a shop should definatly be able to install that in one day.

Just do it yourself its really easy to do a body lift. I did my dodge in the fall I took my time and got it done in under 8 hours and that was the first one I have ever installed. Id say your gettin taken on that deal at 8 hours thats only $520. Id try it yourself before you shell out that kind of money.

ya they're rippin yu off. that would be a comparable price to put a suspension lift on but not a body lift. My buddy just put a 3" body lift on his 99 chevy for 150$. It only takes a couple of hours with a full lift. All u have to do is unbolt the body, pick it up. place the grommets on, and bolt on with new bolts. The only hard part is pickin up the body.

the guy up at 4-wheel parts said these new ford body style are a bit*h to put on.. thats why it cost that much... and on this one you have to weld brackets to the frame.. and i'm not putting my life into my welding abbilities haha... all the sudden i'll be sliddin off the frame... haha

I personally wouldn't do it my self unless I knew alot about that kind of stuff. I mean alot. Take it to a good well know mechanic that can do it good. $600 for 14hrs of work! thats good in my opinion. Even if its not quite 14hrs..Who cares.. I work at a stereo shop and we allways say at least and hr over what it should take. You never know what is going to come up. And if your done earlier all is good. So no $600 doesn't sound bad to me to do a body lift or w/e it is if it requires alot of things. My 2c ;)

Talk to another shop. Look around for the best deal and see if any one else says 14hrs. But that dont sound right at all. I would think a mechanic that knows what hes doin with trucks would have it done in like 4-6hrs at the most.

if you are gettin this done, get a shop that has done it before. the price you say sounds very fair.

make sure the welds will be done correctly. that means grinding the metal until its shiny (white metal) and that there is good fitment (the brackets meet flush with the frame). then make sure that they lay down weld beads that look awesome, not beads that look like sea gull $h!t.

good luck

hey, who did you talk to at 4wp? just wondering, theres certain people i deal with that are great but for the most part they will rip you off... if you are very mechanically inclined you should be able to do it... 600 is a LOT to install a body lift. never done that new of a ford but have done newer z71s and its pretty easy, i mean get some buddies and you can easily do it in a weekend and do it right and take your time, on a saturday if you rush... but dont pay 4WP 600 bucks to change it...

He's right, the new F-150's take longer and are more difficult to install lifts on due to the way they positioned the suspension on these new models. It was in a truck magazine a while back.
