If you get wider a -arms you do not need a wider axle. But It wouldn't hurt to get one anyways.

There is alot of good brand like

Houser, Arens...ect. I like Houser and Arens

For shocks you can't beat Elkas, I like them alot but they are pricy.

Depend on what kinda racing your gonna do. I race XC so I have a +1 Setup with Arens A-Arms and Elka Long Travel. And stock rear axle.

For MX you might want to go +2 in the front and rear. Not sure though I am not a MX Kinda Guy.

If i was you I would save the money and buy a 450 for the dunes. I think you would be happier.

A good set of front a-arms and shocks cost around 2k. You could prally sell your quad and save the 2k and buy a 450. If you do love your 400 and would just buy shocks and not a-arms.
But if you really want to spend the 2k on it I would go with a MX setup for the dunes.

if you are not racing, get the rear done by gt thunder or derisi. by that i mean their real linkage and a shock revalve. as far as fronts, i would say the elka dune edition would be good for you...i have the bottom of the line elka rec series on my 400ex, along with the gt thunder setup in the rear and it amde a big difference.

gt thunders linkage and revalve set-up costs way less than an aftermarket rear shock and performs nearly as well. it would be good enough for dune riding

I picked up a set of Elkas off of ebay. They're compression adjustable and have resivours. I sent them to GT thunder with my stock rear shock and Laz did a fatastic job. I payed $450.00 for the shocks off ebay and about $645 for the revavle and springs with the GT thunder linkage. It is well worth it!!! I saved about $700.00 doing it this way.

I ride MX and it's a huge differance. I love this susspention.
