I am a big person at 6'4 and weighing a little over 250 lbs. and am feeling the blues after riding my '05 400ex and wishing I would have bought a 450r due to the lack of power. I have decided to keep the 400 but am debating as to what I should stroke my 400ex to- 416, 426, or 440.

I spoke to an engine builder here in Orange County, Calif. at Orange County Honda and he told me that he would resleeve the cylinder, add a piston kit, cam, and rocker arms for $1000. He said it isn't condidered a 440 stroker though????
Can someone let me know what he's talking about.
I want to do this once and do it right. I've read posts on some people getting over 40 Horsepower. I want that...how can I get it???

Sounds like he is talking about a 440 big bore and hard weld rockers. The kits you listed are all big bores.

Installing a stroker will require the cases to be split and a new crankshaft/or the old one machined.

If you're looking for 450r power, IMO stroke it.

Check out www.powroll.com.

There is also another active topic on strokers in this forum, check it out.

Stroke it I shall:p Now, where do I go about finding a reputable engine shop in my area (I'm about 15 miles from Los Angeles).
I do not wish to work on this on my own. And can you give me an estimate on what this should cost me??

I called a local Honda dealer and they only install the bore kits.

do most people install the kit themselves?

I installed my own.

GT Thunder makes a 452 stroker kit, and they do the installation work as well.

called Sparks and they said they're so busy they only work on race bikes. Sounds like they dont need any business at the moment.
