2006 WPSA - Final Round - Raceway Park - Englishtown, NJ - Amateur Coverage

The 2006 WPSA series finishes out the season with a double header at the well known Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Much of New Jersey is covered with a sandy type dirt as many noticed this weekend. The berms quick developed and only gained height as the day went on.

The WPSA series has brought great attention to our sport with their televised segments airing on ESPN 2. Although the show is based on the Pro class, the WPSA series attracts many amateur racers from young to older (saving myself) to race on the same track as their favorite pro riders.

As many of you know, Jeremiah Jones was seriously injured in another series recently. Many have found their own personal way of showing their support for JJ.

Raceway Park is a heaven for any motorhead. With a drag strip, airport, paved road course, go-cart track, two motocross tracks, and who knows what else...there is usually something going on to satisfy anyones needs. This weekend, many took time inbetween motos to watch cars race down the strip as well as drivers try their skills on a road course.

John Natalie rolled into another event, just a few weeks after his sidelining injury. This weekend John would be getting back on his quad to get back in the mix. He surely was himself as he spent much of the weekend wishing amateur riders the best of luck as well as letting them in on a few secrets.

The WPSA crew added yet another event to the fun filled weekend. Making the trip from California, the Rhinocraft team brought out a few custom Rhinos to compete on the same motocross track that the pros would be riding.

This Monster Engery sponsored rhino gained much attention throughout the weekend.

If anyone has seen Wes Miller's last installment of the Huevos series (#8), you may recognize a few of these gentlemen that came out to watch some of the racing.

I must give credit to the 30 second girls, as they endured both days of racing with a smile on their face.

The track was well kept all weekend, and everyone was anxious to dig their tires into the dirt.

With the american flag above their heads riders hit the dirt in seek of reaching the top of the podium.

Think about the sound I am hearing in this picture and try to tell me you don't want to go racing.

No need to say anything, Taylor Condacure's jersey says it best.

The production lite class is made up of riders between the ages of 13 and 15. The 300ex has been the dominant quad in this class with just a few riders on the Yamaha blaster.

Richard Lindsay wrapped up the series on a good note as he slung shot his honda out front early.

Quinton Barto is one of few riders who have chosen the blaster as their weapon. Barto pushed himself hard and put himself in the last spot of the podium.

Scott Meizinger, a local Jersey rider, tried his hand against some of the faster production lite riders in the country. Scott put himself in the final with a 9-13 moto finishes. In the final he was able to pull together and round out the top ten.

Jay Corey mad the trip from Indina to compete against most of the Local field. With top 5 moto finishes, Jay ensured himself a spot in the final. Although having some difficulties, he never quit and put in hard laps till the checkers flew while in 11th place.

Although having some trouble, Jay seated himself third in points for the season.

The race to the checkers was intense as riders tried to make a last pass attempt stick

The podium consisted of Richard Lindsay, Neal Mcgrath and Quinton Barto

Richard Lindsay not only took the win in the final race of the season, but took the win in the points race as well. The ATCO, NJ rider's hard work paid off.

The plus 35 class sure rocked the track and showed the younger riders they still have what it takes to compete on a national level. Jeffrey Thompson and Thomas Lewicki battled hard in the final moto in a dash to take the win. Lewicki had the position on Thompson, but the Lost Creek Suzuki Rider (Thompson) was able to sneak around and score a win.

Chris Novotny of Stone Ridge, NY battled hard with banshee rider Dennis Ray of New Jersey. Novotny was able to ride his Honda 450r to a 5th place postion, edging out Ray.

Dane Heilman had a perfect weekend as he scored up two moto wins as well as taking the win in the final on sunday.

Dane not only took home a win in his class, but took home the championship as well.

Lou Russo, ATVRiders.com Member, brought out his sick CRF to compete in the Open Amateur class. Lou set himself into Sunday's final moto with two solid 11th place finishes.

Lou was unable to start in the final and had to watch his friends ride from the sideline.

Lost Creek Rider, James Miller, rode to two 7th place finishes on saturday. In Sunday's final moto, Miller locked in a 9th place finish

Andy Zimmerman, sick whippy's rider, had some trouble during Saturday's motos, but was able to repair his quad and compete in Sunday's final. Andy took his DNF-5 and turned it into an 8th place finish on Sunday.

Casey Dickinson @171 finished just ahead of Zimmerman in 7th place.

Josh Helder (88x), Sick Whippy's Rider, earned himself a top 5 finish aboard his East Coast ATV YFZ. Josh went 2-3 during Saturday's qualifying motos

During Saturday's moto, Pine Grove, PA resisdent Kale Whitmore pulled the holeshot only to be taken to the rear of the pack by a slight mishap.

Kale had a solid ride on Sunday rounding out the podium with a 3rd place finish.

Sunday's top honors belonged to Matt Gassner.

Matt also earned himself a 3rd place finish in the series points.

Phillip Grippaldi had some bad luck sunday as compared to his 1-2 Saturday moto finishes.

Frank Przyhocki, New Jersey resisdent, rode his modded Suzuki LTZ400 to a 17th place finish on Sunday.

Aboard the new Suzuki, Matt Kopchak rode to a 15th place finish following 1-3 moto finishes on Saturday

Michael Shipley headed north from South Carolina to compete this weekend aboard his #91 machine. Shipley fell just outside of the top 10 in 12th place.

Ryan Norris rode his slick looking YFZ to a top ten finish this weekend.

Richard Nagy slipped down from Staten Island, NY this weekend. Aboard his Honda 450r, he battled hard for an 8th place finish following his 3-4 moto finishes on Saturday

Steve O'Neil edged out Nagy for a 7th place finish.

Jason Gaudest was a consistent top 5 rider this weekend. A 4th place finish in the final moto fell just short of the podium.

Bobbly Gifford swept each moto going 1-1-1 to take the top spot on the podium.

The B-Class featured riders from many different states. Austin Moser recently switch from his 300ex to the Honda 450r. At his first WPSA event, the Dirt Mafia team rider, tried his hand in the B-Class

Gunning for the front spot, a few riders became tangled in the first corner.

[tamehart]

Austin was one of those stopped in the first corner. With the field well in front, Austin put in some hard laps.

Ross Dantino had some trouble in the beginning of the race, but did not let that hinder him from running hard till the checkered flags

Sean Fogarty made the trip from New York and ran hard Saturday to seat himself in the final (5-9). In the final, Sean scored a 15th place finish

Another New York resisdent, Casey Dickinson finished just ahead of Sean in the 14th position.

Evan Keiper brought his ATV-Four Play sponsored Honda 450r out to play. Play...he did not...Evan found himself rounding out the podium after Sunday's final

Chris Bowen conquered the B-Class with his three wins. The top spot earned him another win as well as the B-Class Championship.

The A-Class offered some of the best racing all weekend. Riders battled and swapped positions all weekend long.

Thomas Brown made the hike from Texas to run compete this wekeend. Saturday, Brown earned two consistent 2nd place finishes. The final moto on sunday, Brown finished 8th in one of the fastest classes of the weekend. With this finish, Brown finished out the series 3rd in Points

Aboard his ECA YFZ, Christopher Tait fell just out the the top 5 with a 6th place finish.

When it came to crunch time on Sunday, Travis Moore scored a 4th place finish and edged out Brown for a 2nd place finish in points.

Jim Silfes scored a podium spot with a 3rd place finish.

Russel Shumaker drove 13 hours to try and earn another win as well as a championship. Sunday he fell just short of a win.

Russel did, however, earn himself the Championship.

Nate Morello's two top five finishes on Saturday ensured him a spot in the final. When push came to shove, Nate came out on top. A win put him in 4th place for the year.

In this young class, many young riders ready to explode can be seen. These young guns could give many older amateur riders a run for their money.

Ohio resident, Ryan Wheeler rode his Kymco sponsored quad to a 6th place finish. Ryan's consistency earned him a second place finish at the end of the season in the points race.

Zakary Burke rode his Cycle Pro Racing machine to a 4th place finish.

Robbie Jones edged out Zakary for the last spot on the podium. Robbie's great riding throughout the season has earned him a championship

Jordan Davidovich rode hard for a 2nd place finish in Sunday's final.

This is the sight of Nick Moser that everyone seen all weekend.

Scoring a three eyed snake (1-1-1) Nick scored himself an overall win and finished 3rd in points after only one race.

The 0-90 mod is the fastest youth class on the track. These young riders are hitting all the same jumps aboard their mini custom built machines. Joel Hetrick made his first WPSA race. Joel rode hard, but mechanical problems caused him round out the field.

David Neverotski made the short trip from Philadelphia, PA to Englishtown this weekend. He finished out the weekend with a 4th place finish and a matching 4th place finish in points.

Chad Davis, another PA resisdent, earned a podium finish and a 10th place points finish

Hetrick Racing rider, Dallas Tapscott was the next on the podium with his 2nd place finish. Dallas also earned a 2nd place series points finish.

DJ Spurling of Fredricksburg, IN made the long trip worth while with his moto win as well as clentching the championship.

Bren Marra won each of his motos this weekend aboard his Wiley Mods Cobra.

Like Bren, Tyler swept the 0-90 Jr. Production class with three moto wins aboard his H-Bomb Films Cobra.

Jennifer Butter scored a 6th place finish this weekend. She has good riding style and I look forward to seeing her competing more in the future

Katelynn Dantanio Roder her Lonestar Racing YFZ to a 5th place finish this weekend. She also rounds out the season with a 6th place finish in points.

Heather Gual scored a 4th place finish against some of the fastest women in the country.

Michelle Reiser pulled some great holeshots this weekend, but was unable to hold off the charging Angela Butler. She finished the weekend in 2nd place and 3rd in points.

Angela Butler scored top honors this weekend with another win and a Championship victory.
