Alright, so I was going to take the front fender and tank off tonight to check the jetting on the 06 450R I picked up Friday night (bought it used) and I start removing all the bolts.

I was going along good when I got to the left tankside bolt, it would not come out, it would just spin. Any one else have this problem and how did you get it out?

Then I get the tank and plastic off in one piece (one piece front fullbore) that was a treat! Then I start working on the carb and I noticed that the HRC needle is shorter than the needle in the carb.

Is that how it is supposed to be?

Any help is appreciated, have a race on Sunday and I am trying to get her dialed in for it!

Thanks,

Sounds like you have an 04/05 HRC needle. The 06' has an FCR and FCRs have much longer needles.

That is what I was thinking, good thing I did not pay for this!

Anyone know the part # for the 06 HRC needle?

To be honest it sounds like you have an 04/05 450r. They fixed the tank bolt problem for 06.

I would check the year and vin on the frame and make sure.

Or easier ways to check. Where is your Idle Screw?

Its on the FCR carb on a long wire.......

I have the 06 cause the exhaust mount is on the grab bar unlike the 04/05.

How do you get the plastic off the tank when that happens?

there is no problem its just that people over tighten them. it is the same way with all of the dirtbikes people over tighten those bolts and the collar in the tank gets loose and spins

LOL! That is the same exact bolt that is spinning on my 06. Let me know when you get yours out, I tried PB Blaster last night, no luck.

There may not be a prob. 400ex45,but you might want to let the dealers that are assembling our quads in on that little piece of info!

On my 06 ER, My upper rt spins as well. Mine is only 5mos old. My dealer (after a bit of hassle) agreed to replace my tank. Prob is, I can get the new tank till after Labor Day. This was from dealer assy and/or tank defect. It will be re-assembled w/anti-seize to prevent this from happening again.

I heated the bolts up last night and it loosed the glue that the nuts were assembled with, came right out.

Then I used some epoxy and put that sucker back in!
