Has anyone ever been out to the sand drags at State Capital Raceway? It is located in Port Allen, LA. They have a 300ft. drag strip with lights and everything... organized racing with everything from Blasters to Monster Banshees and streetbike (Engine) powered quads.

We are going out this weekend with some buddies to have some fun. Wondering if anyone has been before, or if they want to go soon.

Just a drag strip. It is a big place with the cars, they just got the Sand drags back up. If nothing else, it is always cool just to go out and watch. There is always something killer out there. My buddy went about 2 weeks ago just to watch and and a blast.

Good luck with that kit... I would recommend getting some head work later on to really make that engine hit. Helps out a ton, especially on the 400EX engines. I am about to do a little bit more to my bike as well. I am waiting to do the suspention, but in the meantime I am gonna go back into the engine and change a few things to make it a little stronger LOL. Also need to get some Extreme Paddles... we are gonna have to share my Haulers this weekend.

Anyone have a set of (Honda pattern) paddle tires they would be willing to let me borrow/ rent/ buy, or something along those lines for Saturday?

what's your 416 running in the 300ft? post it up when u get back...a bunch of us are going to the dunes saturday morning...hopefully it won't rain us out....good luck with the rain

Who, me? Don't know yet. Never ran at an official track, it was always either dunes or something along those lines. I keep up with all of the big bikes... and beat alot of them... Predators, Raptors, 450s, etc. I have hung tight with and ran with some drag bikes on its better days. I expecting some decent run times. I am guessing in the 5's since it is a slow track and most drag bikes are running in the 4's.

Good luck at the Dunes. It has been forever since we have gone... funny becaus we love the place and always make plans, just end up going somewhere new instead LOL. As far as rain, as long as it doesn't rain too much, a little will help me out LOL. Need some more paddles to work with. I am spinning like crazy launching in second with the regular 8 paddle Haulers. About to get the Extremes and lossen up the spring on my rear shock to soften it up.... traction is a BIG deal in the sand.

Well, I am pissed. No word of the race been cancelled, yet no one could show up. My buddies went out and sat there for a while while we called all day. Didn't get anything. How lame. Seriosly considering just going out to Sand Hill tomorrow. Anyone know how it is supposed to be making out there tomorrow? I figure they will open up the gate either way. They do still have a gate on near the entrance, don't they? LOL.

We had a blast at Sand Hill, even though we were kinda bummed about State Capitol. To be honest, I just threw my tires on the 450r and used the 400EX as a play bike. I thought it was gonna spin like crazy considering my 400EX needs much more paddle- even though it had some wheelspin, 2nd gear launches made for some nice, gripping take-offs. LMAO, our 06 was smoking everyone (All but one drag 450r and one drag Banshee, neither of which I raced.... but I am pretty sure could have beaten me LOL) with $300 bucks in it. Even my buddies drag banshee and mildly set-up YFZ... I am talking port and polish, cam mod, Curtis Sparks exhaust, etc. I was expecting more, but I guess all of them cannot run like they should. I got a chance to ride all of their bikes, which was nice. I really enjoyed the YFZs even though it was kinda awkward, I could still drag race it no problem after riding my wheelie machine LMAO. Cannot say so much about the Banshees though, those darn things will give you an unbelievable charlie horse if you are not used to them. All in all we had a blast. Can't wait for the next time our group has a get together (Been 8 months since our last ride)... hopefully the next time the guys from the board can make it out there too.

Ahh. Haven't had anything like that happen. The only problem I have had thus far was with my 05... I cannot argue about that though. I have ran that bike harder than anything else... wow, the experiences I have had with that bike LOL. I am about to set it up as my main ride again, and put the 400EX back as secondary again. I am about to change to a web cam and install the CRF 450 camchain on the 400. I have had the idea for a while now... after talking with alot of people, and after having the opportunity to speak with some guys from CP Customs (Well known dealer and top qualifier with drag racing.. they build some of the fastest engines in the U.S.) I think I am gonna go ahead and do it. I am NOT a big fan of Hotcams, so I will be relieved to ditch the last one. Once I get the engine back to a perfectly healthy spec, I am gonna do a few things to it. Can't wait to have ALL of the bikes back ripping it up.... well, not that ANY of them are slouches though. :D

My dad had an CR250 bored out to a 280 that thing was fast we had it for while but my dad broke his leg on it and he sold it:( Then he made me switch to 4 wheels:scary:

I would, but it isn't getting fire right now. I suspect the coil is bad.. I have just been too lazy to fix it. Not a big two stroke guy, though. I would rather sell it LOL.

It is much faster than ANY 250 I have raced.... the acceleration is incredible on it. I want a CRF 450 eventually. Right now I am all about four wheels, but a really good friend of mine races a KTM at the local tracks. I go out there with him and ride his bikes, so it keeps me put with both the bikes and the quads.

Here is the 250. Old picture I have... well, the only one right now LOL.

Yeah, my buddy with the KTM has the 06 250f. He likes it. I am not too crazy about KTM, but they are OK. Kinda remind me of the Banshee in a dirtbike world. Fast bikes with potent engines, but handling is questionable and reliablity is at a lesser standard than alot of others.

As far as making power goes, it doesn't get any better than Sparks for the 400EX. From dynos to people I have talked to, all can agree. It is a little loud..... can't help but to say I love it, though.

400eXr1d3rZ
08-29-2006, 02:07 PM
I love the loud, loud and deep rumble. Just not anything too loud, too loud i mean like. A jet.

You should sell the fmf and get a sparks. That way we can both have what we want :)

CHEVYZ
08-29-2006, 02:14 PM
I thought about it, but I don't feel like going through the hassle. Few people know it, but the FMF is a pretty decent exhaust. Not as good as sparks, but as far as power wise it is comparable to HMF.

400eXr1d3rZ
08-29-2006, 02:17 PM

i find my hmf is louder than sparks..look at the 2 closely i think the hmf is made better than the sparks. i think it is less than 1/2 hp difference in the 2 (sparks and hmf)

Sparks is near 490 for YFZ

Is anyone going to the spillway tommorow? I wanna get one last ride before the piston goes in.

CHEVYZ
09-02-2006, 11:36 AM
I cannot ride at all right now. I was going to Sand Hill tomorrow, but the 06 broke the spring for the decompression mechanism and the 05 is in the shop temporarily for some last minute touch ups before this engine goes out of it. The starter doesn't have the juice to turn it over without it (06), and no dealer around has one. I really don't want to have to pull start it all day... I can just ride around the house untuil everything gets back.

CHEVYZ
09-02-2006, 12:36 PM
Haha, same thing I said. Don't you know that we both had come to the conlusion that with the 440 it was gonna be sooo unreliable, and so far the thing has just kept on ripping... not once since I redid it have I had a relaxing ride. It is always a big race every run LOL. The problem with the 06 was entirely my fault... though the people at Honda have got to have been drunk when they put this spring in. It is the most flimsy $1.50 spring I have I ever seen in my life.. to be put in a bike. It is horrible. With me continuisly using the gas to start it (Not remembering, by mistake) The little thing just snapped. I am gonna go with kickstart in th future, (though for now the spring will just be replced) to ensure this doesn't happen again.

I'll have a 450r one day. But i'll have to sell my 400ex, which will suck, because I LOVE IT!

Im DEFFINITLY gonna get a kicker, I love kickstart, it's so fun.

CHEVYZ
09-02-2006, 02:09 PM
The kicker is a big plus when you start going into the engines on these things. The 440EXs aren't bad, but on the built 450 engines, it sucks with E-start. If it doesn't start 1st crank, you are screwed because you will need another charge on the battery for it to get going. The 05 is about to undergo a tranformation. Thank god its a kicker or I wouldn't be doing anything to it.:o

I was going to take the whole thing off.

How can i change the main without taking the panels off? I thought the main was right next to the pilot?

CHEVYZ
09-05-2006, 03:18 PM
The main is pretty well accessable without having to take the side panel/s off. You can do it with all all together.

But wait... you have a 416 JE piston, Hotcam, exhaust, and filter and you were only gonna change the stock pilot, and not the main. :huh

Seems like if anything you would want to worry about the main first.

400eXr1d3rZ
09-05-2006, 03:23 PM
ugh :o

I waiting for my cylinder to get bored. I was just going to change jets BEFORE i tore into my bike, don't know why but I was bored and when im bored I play around with my quad.

Question: Colby sent me a 165 main and 42 pilot, when I get every thing in (piston, cam gaskets) and a FULL exhaust, will I be too lean?

CHEVYZ
09-05-2006, 03:39 PM
I don't know about the pilot... I have always run a stock pilot in mine, but I was running a 165 before I did the big bore work. Seems like it might be a little too lean, but I would test it out and see first.

400eXr1d3rZ
09-05-2006, 03:41 PM
Where is the main jet located at? How can I get it out without removing the sidepanels?

CHEVYZ
09-05-2006, 03:54 PM
The main jet is located under a cap at the downward facing side of the carb. You are gonna need a 17mm socket. Just reach in and undo the cap. The main is inside. Don't know about the main jet's size, size it up with the one you are going to run. I use a 1/4 socket or something like that on mine... don't know what the correct one is.

Man, I hate my internet service provider. Up until Yesterday when I had to get very rude with them, I had not had internet for a couple of day. If I would have waited around, it would have been well over a week... that they were gonna charge me for. They are so dumb...

Haha, sent my bike back to Honda yesterday and let them freshen my bike all up before I get to wrenching on it. This is like my 3rd time bringing it to them for the same problem... this time I got straight up with them, told them what to do and how to do it, and had the guy give me the OK. No more half-*** jobs.

Also picked up two new weight springs for the decompression mechanism on the cam. We talk to the guy often so he always gives us good deals. Buy one get one free LOL. Always nice to have one extra incase this happens to me or any of the guys I know with them since you cannot find them anywhere around here unless you go by the net... which takes time.

The people over there make me just wanna go over there and choke them. I mean, honestly, I would be a much better employee if I just walked in and got to work today. I mean, there are alot of things where I could disregard their ignorance, but they don't even know the names of Honda model bikes. My friend just got is predator a week ago and got some haulers, hopefully 8 paddle, hes not sure. I might go to the dunes if their 8 paddle.

But if my bike is a 416 would 9 paddle still be too much?

CHEVYZ
09-09-2006, 06:43 PM
9-paddle regular Haulers with the 14T should not be a problem. Considering you have a mild build and no kind of suspention mods, I would not recommend the extremes unless you are gonna get them in 8's. Bayou Boy hooks it up with his eights. I am taking his advise and getting the same, granted I keep the stock swinger.

400eXr1d3rZ
09-09-2006, 06:50 PM
His predator is SCARY fast. It slide around so easily. But apparently only I can ride wheelies on it, because he just can't. The throttle is super responsive, its loud as hell, and its dropped low to the ground. The suspension soaks up ALOT of the bumps. The only bad part is he needs a new gas cap. The one he has now leaks when he goes up a hill or something. And the front is really low and you sorta slide forward and it doesn't feel comfortable while trying to ride and sit on the back of the seat.

But because CHEVYS gave me a little knowlege on how to drag race, I kept beating him :)

Haha, you beat him? Ahh the joy of being an underdog. :p

You would probably trip out if you would ride our 06 with just the HRC kit on it. The thing has a crazy feel to it. Kind of like a two stroke almost it hits so hard and quick.. the only way I can descibe it really, but the power stays smooth and pulls all the way through. Not like anything I have ever ridden, to say the least.... even my 05 which is another R has no where near the same feel.

400eXr1d3rZ
09-10-2006, 10:57 AM
I want a 450r, but I just got a piston and stuff, don't want to get rid of my 400 yet.

But the predator had a sound like my 400 doesn't, the exhaust was just screaming! Like, you would hit the revlimiter and it would sound badass. I don't know how to explain it, hopefully my 400 will have a sound similar to that when I get my sparks and bike rebuilt, and maybe a revbox.

Any reccomendations on a revbox?

CHEVYZ
09-10-2006, 11:13 AM
Haha, that is how the big bikes sound. :p I am hoping our 450 has a nice sound to it. I think Curtis Sparks exhaust systems sound awesome!

To get a good rev box, you will have to do some studying. To be honest, most boxes are the same with different names. Without spending big bucks it is hard to find a good one. I think the GT Thunder box is a pretty good one, but that is just from what I have heard regarding them from others.

400eXr1d3rZ
09-10-2006, 06:57 PM
Im going to get a Procom Magnum, RPM's stop at 10,400. Sounds good to me. I hope one day to get a newer model 450r, but you never know, maybe I'll keep my 400 for 10 years.

CHEVYZ
09-10-2006, 07:35 PM
Never heard of it.. I will have to look that one up. Remeber not to base a rev box only on the number of RPMs gained over stock. There is so much more a rev box can offer.

Haha, as for the 400, you never know. We kept ours up until we could get a 450, never could trade for one. Even right now if someone offered me a pro built 450r I could not trade... just something about it makes me want to keep it forever.

The big plus of ceramic coating is that it keeps the exhaust chrome and shiny, it won't get brownish or discolored after riding. Another plus is that is disipates heat.

And Bayou Boy, I agree. Getting a rev box will help out alot. I think that you will be satisfied until you CAN get the exhaust, if not now.

Then I guess the CDI comes first, but where exactly is the stock one? I would think near the headlights or battery? Timmy, did you ever have starting troubles with the Magnum?

Well, I know where I'm getting the boring done now, Shreve Automotive, they want 50 dolars for boring + honing. The guy my friend knows said he couldn't do it, dunno why he took so long to say that. But I'm glad my dad is getting me all this stuff! Hopefully I can get a axle and longtravel front end one day, that would be great. Or make just 450r shocks revavled for +3 or +2 a-arms, std travel. Big dreams :blah:

WOOOOOHOOOOOO, My bike is torn apart, a friend is coming to pick my piston up tommorow and bring both cylinder and piston to Slow A$s Shreve (it gets called that because boring and honing is a 30 minute job, they take 3 days)Automotive and it's getting BORED!!!! Hopefully the break-in won't take long and won't be boring, and hopefully i'll be able to take it easy but have some little times where i can smash the gas. So excited!!!! And I just talked to my dad too, the revbox can come before the exhaust, if not were ordering at the same time. Which hopefully is soon.

I just hope its 5000000000 times easier to get the bike back together than it was to take it apart. I need to wire brush my chain!!! It's all rusted!

bayou boy
09-12-2006, 03:24 AM
the magnum box has no starting issues. shreve does good work they did the headwork on a friend of the familys super gas car a few years back. 3 day turn around is not bad. they have other jobs to do also. the local honda shop at home takes about a week. as far as break in i just cruised on mine about 20 min. to make sure no leaks then i lined her up. dont wire brush your chain you may mess up the o rings. just wd 40 it real good. which is something you should do after every ride to keep it clean. remember good maintenence is the life of your quad. frequent oil changes and keep the air filter clean you put alot of money into it oil and filters are cheap insurance

CHEVYZ
09-12-2006, 04:30 AM
Everybody has their own ideas on break-in. To be honest, I have seen great results with nearly all of them. I used a method similar to Bayou Boy's with my 450rs, and I babied my 400EX for 3 tanks and then did the same. All of them run great, so to be honest, I am still not convinced that there is a superior way of doing it. But yeah, do not wire brush your chain. I usually just take a toothbrush and WD-40 and clean everything off... the surface rust will come off if that is it. Afterwards I wipe it down a few times and spray on some chain lube. Been working for us since we got the bike.

Oh, and yes, the CDI is near the front of the bike around the headlights if I remember right. You will notice it if you look under the front fenders. It is a small black box.

For suspention, I am waiting and eventually I am gonna set mine up with some (Just STD) Elkas or Works, and get the rear lowering link. Afterwards I am gonna decide on arms and an axle, but it isn't gonna be long travel. Hell, I may like it with the stock set-up just redone.

400eXr1d3rZ
09-12-2006, 02:06 PM
The piston and cylinder is that Shreve's right now!

I cleaned my airfilter last night, simple green is awesome! The entire Airbox is clean, but when i took the plastics off, the motor looked like chit!!! We cleaned it off after, my friend had the idea of sending my header off to Jet Hot Coatings but I said no because im getting full system anyway. I'll try the toothbrush trick with the chain, won't be anytime soon though, Friday my cylinder should be done and then maybe Saturday everything will be put back in I hope. I want to ride it so bad. One screw was stripped, the little screw holding the clamp on the intake to the carb, but he has lots of stuff so we have that taken care of.

Bayou Boy, I don't understand what you ment about break-in on the bike, ride it for about 20minutes, check for any leaks or problems then just ride normally? Isn't that bad?

Let it idle for 20 minutes and check for any leaks than just ride it normally. (No wheelies):scary:

I would NOT just let your bike sit there and idle, especially not on a freshly built engine and for 20 minutes. Not a good idea IMO. With my understanding, he means take it easy for a couple minutes, he is saying about 20, and if the bike checks out fine, then you are safe to run it. Just because you are breaking it in, do not be scared to race it and ride it like you normally would. :macho

That sounds great! So ride for about 20 min then check for leaks or any problem at all, oh yeah, i can't let it idle, a thing in the hotcam box says DO NOT LET IDLE UPON FIRST START-UP, KEEP RPM'S TO 3000 OR BETTER.

So how long until I can let it idle?

And before the complete break-in, will I have as much torque and power as AFTER break-in?

After you ride it around for a little while I would just let the bike idle and run as you would normally. As your bike breaks in it will get smoother and run better. You should be able to notice a difference in the way the bike performs before and after break-in.

Yes!!! That makes me feel MUCH MUCH MUCH better knowing i don't have to ride easy for 3 weeks bofore being able to ride normally, THANKS!!!!

I can't wait till Friday!!!

The only thing I would recommend is that you do a bit of heat cycling as well. Don't run the bike for excessive periods of time without giving it a break the first couple of runs. Now I am not saying you need to stop every pass down a road. Just try to keep in mind that it is basically a new engine, and you don't want to overdue it.

So about every what say 20 minutes stop and let it cool?

CHEVYZ
09-12-2006, 08:16 PM
I wouldn't do it by time because as the engine breaks in it is gonna start running cooler. I would just guesstimate on when you need to shut it down. You don't have to be precise with it.. it isn't really all that technical. Just feel it out and you will know when the engine is ready for a break.

Basically, just give the bike some breaks and don't try to do everything at once.

That sounds great! I was told to drain all my oil, from the case too, where is the bolt in the case that drains the oil?

Yeah, I have tried multiple methods and all worked well. I just rode my 06 like normal, but I babied my 400. I rode my 05 like I was on fire LOL. I raced everything imaginable through break-in.

Did you have any problems? On a 400ex, where is 3000rpm's at? 1/4 throttle?

One more question: Where is the air/fuel screw? :blah:

CHEVYZ
09-15-2006, 04:28 PM
Don't remember off hand where the air fuel screw is. You will have to looki it up... it is in the manual.
Don't know exactly where 3000 rpms is either, but you don't necesarily have to do everything like it says.
As for my bikes, I haven't had anything wrong with them that wan't ENTIRELY my fault. I did have probalems with my 05, but that is my own errors for so many things. Hell, I even raced that bike with not a drop of oil in it all night long at Sicily Island. Long story.. basically I didn't put the drain bolt tight enough and it magically diappeared. My 06 has been great other than that spring breaking. Again, my fault for using the throttle on start up. Big no no with the 450r. 400EX has held up great so far.

Hopefully I will get the 05 back Tuesday and can begin working on it. Plan to get it torn down and start prepping the frame. Gonna get all of the polishing out of the way as well. Then I will just have to wait for the rest of the parts to come in, and get everything painted (Or powdercoated).

What did you order?

CHEVYZ
09-23-2006, 01:52 PM
Most of the stuff I still need to order. Got the parts for my engine already, well other than gaskets. Still waiting to order the exhaust... may possibly get an airbox eliminator and carb. Other than that, the rest of it will just be parts for the body and rims/tires. ;)

Not changing the suspention on the 05. Using stock suspention and slamming it to the ground LOL.

Oh
HELL no I'm not getting out of this sport:blah: I was just seeing what you sothern hick people had to say:macho haha:devil:
We are in a sport that takes so much ballz to do... We fly with out wings... We die for what we love to do... We live to do what we do... If we die doing this, we will die on something we love to do. So many people try to stop us from doing what we do... But yet another person has failed to stop us... Atually that was a speach I had to do in my class:p

I recently got to ride a raptor 700 and I loved it... The power was almost the same on my 450 but with a little more wider gears.
But I love how my YFZ acts like a two stroke:macho

No reason really, just for fun. On the USPS website, they give away boxes for free, you have to order them in a package, i ordered 25 boxes per package, 10 packages.
