HELP ME!!! Viper or Corvette Zo6???

Alright, ive been working for a while at my job and finally have saved up enough for my dream...But when it came down to time to buy, i couldnt decide between a 2002 Dodge viper, or a new C6 Corvette Z06. Money is no object in purchase price. What is a better bang for your buck(in terms of gas and insurance)?

A viper will defiantely turn heads more, just because it is common to see a 'vette going down the road. And most people will see a Z06 going down the road, and think to their self, "oh just another corvette".

A viper, on the other hand...you don't see them every day. Not around here anyways.

oh the vette for sure. I used to be all into vipers but these new c6's are freaking insane. Just as fast if not faster than the viper, get better gas milage (i dont know the exact specs). I would honestly get the vette :devil:

I agree.... However if it was my $$$$$$, there would be a new Z06 sitting in my garage.

I prefer performance over looks.... but thats just me.

People, keep in mind he is talking about a 2002 Viper.... not a new one!

EDIT: I do have to add my $0.02 due to my age. If you have enough $$$$$ to buy one of these cars and you worked your butt off, there are way better investments for your money. Cars are one of the worst investments you can lay cash in. Given, those two cars do and will hold their value ok... you certainly will not gain any value - not for a VERY long time if any is gained. :)

i agree if you are just wanting something to cruise around in Saturday night and want to turn heads and have something with a little power get the viper like he said some people will see the z06 and say ohh another corvette but i really think the viper is a head turner

The z06's are crazy fast and the only "supercar" that doesn't have a gas guzzler tax. Of course if money is no object who cares about a gas guzzler tax. PS- I'm with exrider22 get a muscle car (69 camaro) :devil:

I really didn't read through the thread, so forgive me if I have missed something, but coming from an unbiased opinion (Yes, my name is CHEVYZ, but up until recently the VIPER was always my dream car). Get the vette. The new vettes are unbelievably quick and sporty. The thing that IMO sets them apart is the craftsmanship and ride of the Viper when compared to the Vette. It sucks. I know a guy with both.. not the new vette, but a C5 Z06, and he much prefers the Vette even though it isn't quite as fast (Though the new one should eat up a Viper). The Viper rides horrible, you feel every pebble in the road and it feels extremely cheap when you are riding in it. The Vette on the other hand rides surprisingly well when compared. It also feels so much better put together. The Vette rides better, is faster, looks better IMO, and... well, who doesn't love a vette LOL.

Personally I would go with the vette. The vette could probably be had a bit cheaper than a viper and the mods are going to be more affordable. A cat-back exhaust for a viper runs anywhere from $1000-$1500 when a cat-back exhaust for the vette can be had for anywhere upwards of $500. Im sure other mods are much more expensive also. With the viper being a bit more exotic than the vette I can only imagine what the difference in insurance rates would be. Dodge parts in general are going to be a lot higher than chevy and a stock difference of 100 h.p. just isnt enought to justify paying soo much more to have a viper. The thought of a v-10 is cool but after that what have you really got that is so special? Ive got less than $10,000 dollars in a 93 mustang and it will give both a run for thier money.

First of all i've driven in an 03 Viper and though it was kinda sweet to be riding in something that gets alot of looks, the Z06 is just so much more of a supercar. We had an 04 Z06 for a short period of time and man that car handled like a dream and had so much useable power. I've never driven the new C6 Z06 ,but i would think its just that much more crazy!! I'd take the Z06.

Honestly they are both great cars, and well like most of us I would love to be in your shoes, but if I had the money I would get a Ford GT. They run about 150,000 or more. But they are rare fast and beatiful! Just my .02

Dude money has to be an object with the mark up on the vette(if you want a Z06). I bet you could get an 02 viper for around 60k, the dealer probably wont let a Z06 go for under 85, even though the msrp is less. Save some more and buy a Ford GT.:devil:

about 2 weeks ago i watched a viper destroy a z06 from rt37 onto rt 9 and then did a nice little drag race up on a barnegat straigt. Also a couple nites ago i watched a viper race a tricked out 350z. Thanks guys...I went to the local drag strip, and guess what was Dragging, yup a viper and a new zo6 vette. It probably wasnt a fair race because nether looked stock. But the viper cleaned up.

I'm not sure I believe this is an honest thread. Someone is fiscally responsible enough to amass approximately $70,000 by saving and yet they come on here to ask a bunch of teenagers which car to get? Being concerned about insurance and gas?

If this is true then the thread starter should immediately stop what he's doing and reevaluate his life. Investing that $70,000 would yield quite a return in 5 or 10 years and then you can buy whatever you want. Unless you have family money or one heck of a good paying job then this is a terrible, terrible decision. :huh

I went to the dealer today and bought the dodge viper. They let me test drive it, it was too much fun for me to not get. There was somthing about the engine roar, that i fell in love with. To continue with the thread , if I had to choose between a Viper and a Vet , I'd be driving away in a Viper .

Seems everyone around town has a corvette , and quite a few are Z06s ... don't get me wrong they are beautiful cars , but to me the styling of a Viper is far superior to that of the Corvette . Place a vet and a viper side by side , and I'd walk up to the Viper first before heading over to the Z06 . But everyone has their own preferences .

Now if money was no object ..... sign me up for a Lambo !!!!!!:devil:

Also , I wouldn't buy a convertible . Personally I would take the coupe over the convertible any day of the week .

WOW Yellow and black are my 2 favorites. I like coupes better. Plus I would want the added protection incase I would wreck. My friend from the Fire Dept. has a 57 chevy witha 454 putting out 700hp talk about awesome.

Ya same here . For me , those are the only 2 colors that REALLY look good on a Viper . Some other colors look OK , but these 2 just stand out apart from the rest . The black makes it look like a sleeper ... a car not wanting much attention ...... the yellow just screams " Take a look and notice me " .

Imagine winning the lottery and rolling up to a prestigeous dealership in a regular daily driver car ,dressed in jeans and a t-shirt . As you walk up to the doors to the building , all the salesmen look at you with a crooked smile on their face trying not to laugh ( thinking to themselves " this guy can't afford anything here" ) . You point to this car ....

BTW about a week ago i was on a two-lane road with highway on ramps-off ramps on both sides. I see a z06 vette and i pull up next to him, rev it up and pass. He then gets next to me and tells me to follow him onto the highway... Now i was on my way to the parts store to get new brake pads, new chain, and new rear tire because my cbr600's chain was worn out and stretched, front brake pads were down to the metal, and the tire was bald but i said heck you only live once. So he pulls out and we get onto the on-ramp, he hits second, smokes the tires, hits third, goes a little sideways and the tires smoke once again, Keep in mind im on my cbr around 13k short shifting and i hear his motor over mine. So i hear him just wail on third and shift into fourth meanwhile we are weaving through traffic and i realized he couldnt shake me. I look down to glance at my speed around 160 and i forgot my visor was up and wow did she shut harder then ever. I spent 3k on my little 600, it can hold another passenger just like the vette, and honestly i would rather drive my bike in the rain before a new z06, so i honestly cant fathom spending that much on something that i can get everything out of for 3k haha. I also had the privledge to ride in my buddies Trailblazer SS today with a different torque converter and for an SUV that thing sure did move.

I would still have to go with a stang before a vette or viper. The same buddy I have also has a 2003 Cobra that could show either of those cars up and honestly is not only more eye appealing but cheaper. I dont know why but i have never liked vettes and i will never drive a dodgem. Okay if you gave me a Viper i would drive it...

the viper will turn more heads but the vette is better in every catagory, power, speed, handling, ect... but i see a viper or two more often than most people. in the town i work in there are two near by. go out and drive them both and make your own choise.

OMG I prefer the Enzos my self. Once I seen a Rice Burner beat a viper with full exhaulst. It was insane. It was a old civic hatch back. The engine had about 800Hp when the viper only had the stock what is it I think 500HP lol. For a realistic car I wouldn't mind having a Subaru Impreza STI. 13.0 in the quater 20 - 30 MPG and sounds good and it AWD can't beat it for a Rice Burner.

Again , if I had money , I'd buy this car for my dad . He had one when he was younger , and it's been his dream to have another . If he wouldn't have bought his 'Cuda , he'd have one of these ( at the time he was looking to buy , we couldn't find any) . They are extremely hard to come by .

well i must say 3 days ago my eyes were opened to what power REALLY is... i had driven mustangs and such, stuff around 300 hp yknow.... well my friends mom, just got a new car... Mercedes SLR McLaren.... :eek2: and i was scared to death but she let me drive it around the neighborhood... talk about SCARY power... and it was just incredible set up, youre IN the car since its front-mid engine with the gull wing doors, its like a little hole you sit in... anyways its AWD with 617 horses and a carbon fiber frame, the curb weight is 3700 lbs, i have some pics on my razr if i can figure how to get them on my comp if yall dont believe me, but anyways it dont matter to me if yall do or not.... hah i got it up to a bolstering 45.. but it sure got there QUICK!!! i was scared to mess somethin up, but the bottom is completely covered with a massive black plate to help with aerodynamics and it has an 62 degree airbrake hah, i never got fast enough to use that... but the paddle shifters were cool....

ya... you can compare a z06 to a ferrari... people that buy ferrari's and lambo's dont buy them because they cruise the highways at 150 or are speed demons... 90% of them ferrari/lambo's probally never see over 120...People in the united states are attracted to POWER and pure performance..geeze now awaydays we have a freaking JEEP doing 0-60 in under 5 seconds. that is faster then 95% of the old muscle cars.

On to the Vette vs. viper thing... they are both AMAZING cars no doubt. but i have to go with the vette on this one, even though i am a vette van , im just not a fan of the vipers..Ive ridden in one and it was the most noisy thing ever.. they are like 101db in the car at full throttle.. they sound like a damn tractor with there stupid airplane looking motor lol. But they are VERY good looking cars and deff produce some good #'s.. and about the Ford GT... great car, i mean if i spent $250,000 on a car i would love to get a call from ford about a recall because there is a 75% chance my alluminum frame is already broken all the way thru on the window rails.. If dodge wants to seriouslly compete with the corvette in terms of sales they should drop that whole V10 and throw that 425hp hemi motor in and go. It would drop the price and give it the american V8 Image that many buyers go for.. dont even get me started on ford's, when they create a natural asperated muscle car that dosnt need a supercharger to break the 0-60 in under 5seconds...but they are all great cars and it basiclly comes down to wat brand you like !

The GT is closer to 150k than 250k.

If you have ever seen how the GT is constructed you would know how mistaken that statement is. Ford did replace the front a-arms at no cost on some early production GT's maybe that's what you were thinking of.

The Z06 is a great car the only downside is to most people it looks just like any other corvette. The Viper is a more outrageous looking car and people do notice them more than the vette. If you want to stand out go with the Viper. If you want a good track car and want a lower profile go with the Z06.

I woulda driven the heck out if it had it been my 450,000 dollar car.... hah but her dad drag races every weekend (dragsters, i forget what class) but anyways he has a ferrari also, but he drives them hard at the tracks sometimes so they do get a workout, however the SLR is mostly a grocery getter... :huh :rolleyes:

The viper gets horrible gas mileage, costs more, and is almost double insurance, but you said money is no object. i would go with the viper if you were to change out the rear end. With stock gearing on a 2002 viper the Z06 will blow it away up to about 150ish, but if you went with say a 4.11 instead of the 3.18(???) then the viper would be insane.
