Which year 250r had the best geometry? Im purchasing a 250r frame to start a 250r project quad for a frame up build but I was wondering which year frame I should be looking out for. Thanks.

i think they're all the same minus the fact that the 86 and 87 frames had different motor mounting/swingarm bolting parts

other than that, i believe they're both pretty much the same except for a few small parts

Go with whatever frame you find a good deal on. You can get any year frame to have the same geometry, I have heard 86 frames are the strongest, I have heard 88/89 style is the strongest. Bottom line is, it's a 250r. Thats all that matters.

I agree. buy anything you can get your hands on cheaply and buy or make your own gussett kit to weld in the week areas! There are many gussetting techniques disscussed on this form!

if you are going to ride it in the dunes only, i suggest getting the LIGHTER 88-89 model year frame.

i'd go with the 88-89 frame. i beleive, Don't quote me on this, i beleive the swing arm pivot bolt is also a bolt that holds the motor in..... and thats just a pain in the *** IMO, but i preferre the 88-89 frames

'88-'89 has a lower rear motor mount on the frame and an upper rear frame mount on the crossbar that is located above the swingarm but below the airbox boot.

'86-'87 has the c-shaped bracket that connects the rear upper and lower motor mounts to the swingarm.

Used aftermarket frames are cheap so try to find one that is not abused. Most aftermarket frames are setup to use an '88-'89 style swingarm. Others use a no-link type setup or CR500 link setup.
