ford ranger problems

today i went to drive my truck, got down the street and it started running like chit, it sounds like one piston isnt firing, and when i look under the hood it sounded like it was pinging from being so hot. its the same sound if a spark plug wire fell off. well i take it back home then try driving again and the check engine light is flashing so i turn it off and turn it back on and the check engine light it still on. at first i thought a vacuum line but im not sure, any other suggestions?

the earlier models have head gasket problems, id check that out.

check plugs and plug wires. Then maybe check the fuel injectors. Try some fuel injector cleaner if the plugs and wires are good.
