much better. ask anyone that went from a 2-stroke to a new 450 if they give you an honest opinion no one will say the 450 handles better. they're 30lb. heavier and taller. no need to coble together soem dirt bike engine, the standard 250R set up works just fine.

The 250R frame geometry handles BAR NONE better than any other quad. I have ridden all the new quads including 450R and the YFZ and they still cannot produce the excellent handling of the 250R. Why do you think all the racers kept them alive for so many years producing aftermarket frames duplicating this chassis set up? They still haven't hit the nail on the head for me to get a new quad!

^^^ same with me, i am still ridin a 87 R!...just go out and buy a fully aftermarket 250R for 4-6 K and you wont be disapointed

I'm a 250r guy for life, I ridden raptors, 400ex, trx450r, yfz, susuki 450r, 300ex, cannondale and none of them can compare to a 250r.

In the 250r section, you are obviously going to get a lot of "the 250r is the best quad ever made" type of comments.

If you go into other sections, you'll hear comments like "out-dated" and "old technology", that the new 450s are so much better because they are new.

In reality, the 4-strokes were second-best for a long time. The engines were larger, which made them heavier. With a larger engine comes a larger frame, and it needed to be stronger to deal with the added stress of the heavier engine. Size and weight, and STILL didn't have the power of the 2-strokes.

Only very recently have the 4-strokes caught up. They finally got the power up and weight down, so that the size and handling is finally equal to that of the old 2-strokes.

Notice I said "equal", not "better".

In my opinion, the 4-stroke powerband is better for racing. Less wheelspin, less fatigue, more forgiving. But if you're not after the powerband, there's no advantage to the new 4-strokes. The chassis and handling are about equal, with the slight advantage going to the 2-strokes simply because they still weigh just a little less.

Believe me, if you're looking for 2-stroke power in a chassis that handles as well as a YFZ, then just get a 250r. They are not dead, or dying, or antiques. There are lots of aftermarket companies that still make lots of goodies for the 250r, and the handling truly is top notch.
