When it was released, I was mounting a Blaster:scary: . That says it all right there. Then the first time I saw it on the lake I was amazed.

it was first of teh high performance 4 strokes. I was amazed riding one for the first time with the power it had. at the time i had a 250X amd thought the 400ex was jsut the bomb. i am glad it started teh revolution that it did. things only got better from there. the 400 is still an awesome quad with with the new technology and ugrades to quads every year, things are only looking up.

I thought....why would anybody that wanted to race waste there money on a 4 stroke. Then a few months later when I got beet by one I knew that the days of the 250r where numbered.

I thought it was the hottest thing since sliced bread .

I was 16 when it came out and I remember reading about it on the cover of Dirt Wheels magazine . I bought the Mag , went home and dreamed about owning one .

Funny thing is , to this day , I have never put my leg over one and rode one .

I wonder what the power feels like compared to a YFZ .

08-16-2006, 01:13 PM
I was on a 250R at the time.

My first thought was " %*$&# - that means they aren't gonna be making any more performance 2 strokes."

Unfortunately, I was right.

A stock 400 ex compared to a yfz is like comparing a ford escort to corvette. I have rode one right after the other and it really is sad.

True, very true. I did find the 400ex to be easier to ride longer, though.

I was out riding on my Ex, and a buddy on here let me test his 450R in a field. The power difference was day and night, no competion at all. I still love my quad, and if I ever get a new quad i'm going to have it and my Ex still. Its a real great quad and paved the way.

Funny story...One of my friends owns a 400ex and he put duals on it. He beat a 450r in a straightaway. No motor work is done to the 400ex. And thinking it was a fluke, they raced again. Same results.

That could happen due to how good of the riders are compared to each other. I think they should race again on original quads, then race after that on each others quads. But did the straight away allow them to hit max speed?

Why does everyone think their damn raptors do 90.... does anybody have any idea how crazy fast 90 is on a quad.. I havnt seen a quad in person that will go over 80.... that 700 might be doin 75.....

mickey400ex
08-18-2006, 02:39 PM
i was talking to guy the other night who said his 06 450r would do 100:o , i just was like yeah man thats fast, all i can say is i ride my cbr 600RR all the time and when u hit 90 ur moving and when u hit a 100 its starting to get scary fast, this post was bout peoples opinion on the 400ex when it came out, not a freaking arguement that a 700 raptor will do 90 bone stock, i think some of these "kids" on these boards need to grow up and realize how fast 80,90, or even 100mph actually is

08-18-2006, 02:40 PM
what is done to this 90 mph raptor 700? i have had the chance recently to rie with raptor. it was piped. it was just about as fast as my stock '06 450r...i know i am not doing 90 on the r...might be hitting lower 80's, no more than 83 on a downhill witha rear breeze...

mickey400ex
08-18-2006, 02:41 PM
oh yeah my buddy has a 650 baja that has some work done to it and it might hit 80mph, and when u top that thing out, it gets crazy riding at those speeds

When the 400EX came out I was like whippy dew another quad came out... and went back to sleep... back then I rode dirt bikes so I didn't give a dam about quads:p
And back in 2004 I go a chance to ride a YFZ and I was hooked:D

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. But the guy on the 450r has his geared way down so that's probably the reason. And to end the argument about the Raptor...Everything in Canada is ALWAYS faster than what everything is in U.S.A.

That's cuz the air is thinner, and you are farther from the equator up there.

Less wind resistance and gravitational pull.

I was 9 n thought.. AHH! That thing must do a gabillion miles per hour!

In 2003 when i was 13 i rode 1 n thought i was gonna die. In 2004 when i saw the 450r i was like pff thats a ***** quad.. only 1 pipe coming out of the motor......

So i got a 400ex. It was fun for 2 weeks till my buddy got a 450r. I rode it n begged my parents to sell the 400 for a 450.

I was amazed!! I also thought " Well, SOOOOO many people are going to die on that thing".

In April, one of my quads, a 400 ex was stolen, and sure enough two people ended up dead on it.

Isn't life....and kharma....funny?

08-19-2006, 10:42 AM
i wanna get a 400ex, just to ride around in trails and stuff cuz they seems to be very relieable, decent power and i think i could pick up a stock or close to stock one for cheap

You know it has 5 gears right?? i rode a 300ex with a full fmf system, cam, k&n, cdi box, then i got a 400ex and so for a breif period i had both before i sold the 300, either that 300 was a sleeper or you were in 4th gear, because i know that my 300 felt like a slow, low, narrow go kart compared to the 400, there was no comparison...... me and my friend, who at the time was of equal riding skill, dragged repetitively, then we switched, same results each time, the 400 gets the holeshot and keeps stretching from there.... unless your talkin bout reverse:blah:

08-20-2006, 12:00 AM
my old dirtbike went about 75 thats fast enough
:eek2:

i always thought how bad it would be to fall off or wreak that fast

and in the USA...they cant be sold doing over 75...the raptor 700 has a speed sensor that starts cutting the motor back at 75...i know this becuase we tried it! ...although i dont know why....and BTW, i totally agree...some people have no grasp on speed....my 440 miht hit 71 or 72.....and it gets crazy up around there...
