How old is too old? my friend has a Ford 1995 F-250 standard diesel, its a killer truck, I was wondering what kind of problems would be expeected for that old of vehicle with lots mile, Im thinking of buying a truck like that instead of a quad?

deisels run forever if you get one that has been maintained. thats the key. find a clean truck (your going to pay a bit more for it) but a clean truck is going to be alot better in the long run. you don't want something that someone is dumping because of problems. i wouldn't hesitate finding a 95 deisel if i was in the market. i have an 05 ram and i plan on keeping it for atleast 10 years and 200k. minimum.

what motor is it? the 6.9, the 7.3, or the 7.3 powerstroke? a deisel will last a long time, as long as it has not been modded to death. that old is fine, what type of miles are on it. is it a turbo or non turbo motor? the non turbo are low on power and if you crank up the injector pump it will smoke like no other and you will see a slight power gain. if it is a turbo motor ask if the turbo has ever been rebuilt, cause if not it probably needs to be. the 6.9 is not the greatest motor, but still fairly reliable. a non turbo 7.3 is a good motor but low on power. i think around 95 or so would be the first year for teh turbo powerstroke so that would be your best bet.

Also keep in mind that a diesel runs forever but your still looking at alot of miles on everything else.

great truck engine is reliable if you maintain it. the 7.3 is deff a good motor. that was one of the sooner to come with the new 7.3 turbo. i have the 6.9 it sure isnt made for drag racing but you can bet it will pull. mine has 320,XXX miles and still runin strong . engine is original besides new head gaskets which i think just about every 6.9 on this earth had to get new ones some time sooner or later. i just ordered a 4" lift for mine. but back on the topic their great truck and can be mad to scoot fairly well. just check it to see if it uses oil or coolant. find out the miles on it. and is it a 4x4 ? auto trans or man? if i could find one around me i would be all over it. i love diesels especially the strokers. i can answer alot of your questions just ask away and ill do my best

just stay far away from the 6.0Lway too many issues.7.3l is a good motor with just a few problems from time to time.also and is very easy to fix, unlike the 6.0l:ermm:

Do diesels do well in winter?

they do ok. give it alittle time to warm up. you will need to add some fuel additives so your fuel wont turn to jello

the power strokes seem to be pretty finiky in the winter. make sure you plug it in if it gets below about 50. they are some of the hardest to start diesels in the winter. plug it in, use fuel additives adn you should be fine.
